Concerts rockin' the town
The 2010 Concerts in the Park began last week and will run from 7-8:30 p.m. each Friday night through Sept. 3 at Lions Wayside Park at the corner of First Street and Neal. Georgi & the Rough Week will be onstage tonight performing rocking blues.
The Pleasanton Downtown Association reminds everyone not to put blankets or chairs on the lawn to reserve spaces before the concert date.
House closed after fire
Officials "red tagged" a house in the 400 block of East Angela due to fire safety violations after a Tuesday morning fire. A police officer discovered the fire at 7:45 a.m. when he saw smoke coming from the house. Three small children and three adults were standing in front, one spraying a garden hose through a window in an attempt to extinguish the fire.
The homeowner's wife informed police that her granddaughter's ex-boyfriend, who lived with them in the home, had set the fire, according to police reports. The ex-boyfriend was one of the adults standing outside and, when asked, he told police he started the fire. He was unable to provide an additional explanation for his actions and was placed on a psychiatric hold and transported to John George Psychiatric Pavilion in San Leandro for evaluation. Criminal charges are also pending.
Anyone with information is asked to call Investigations Supervisor Sgt. Jim Knox at 931-5100.
Get ready for the fair
Dust off your hats, break out the sunscreen, and put a new notch in your belt because summer means it is time for the Alameda County Fair. Besides the returning favorite attractions such as horse racing, carnival rides, livestock and shopping, the fair boasts many newcomers.
Puppy PartyPalooza! will be all about dogs and offer demonstrations on grooming and health care while Mutton Bustin' gives 3- to 6-year-olds the chance to ride a sheep. Also featured will be the world's largest waffle cone and chocolate-covered bacon. The concert series is hosting the Michael Jackson tribute band, Foreverland, on opening day as well as returning favorites Grand Funk Railroad, War and Tower of Power.
