Police uncover shipping fraud scheme
Pleasanton police arrested 26-year-old Phillp Suk at his home April 1 in the 6700 block of Paseo San Leon for possession of stolen property and 15 counts of identity theft.
While serving a search warrant, they determined Suk was involved in a reshipping fraud scheme, according to police. Suk reportedly told police he replied on Craigslist to an ad for a part-time job shipping items.
Police said this type of ad is a fraudulent scheme where items are purchased with an identity theft victim's credit information and then the merchandise is shipped to the "hired employee" who then reships the merchandise, usually outside of the United States. The employee is then paid a small amount of money, according to reports.
Police warn residents that participation in these schemes is illegal and it is usually the reshipping employee who is located.
