Letter: Debate needs to be respectful
Dear Editor,
I've lived in Pleasanton now for 10 years and read the Weekly regularly, and I was quite appalled at recent letters from some residents.
Where is the respect? I enjoy reading the variety of opinions regularly expressed in the Weekly, for healthy debate helps us all make the right decisions for our precious community. However, I was quite appalled with recent very harsh descriptions of our council members, bordering on slander. Publicly calling our mayor and two council members fiscally irresponsible and afraid to take responsibility for their actions, in regards to the Oak Grove ballot measure, is wholly disrespectful and inappropriate. What's more, these attacks fail to account for the responsibility of those opposed to the development. We live in a democracy and hopefully welcome disagreements, but where is the respect? Is that too much to ask?
