Letter: Tarver came along at a crucial time

Dear Editor,

Thanks for the excellent article on former Mayor Ben Tarver ("Ben Tarver 1946-2010," Cover Story, Jan. 8, page 14). From my experience on the Ridge Committee and several election campaigns, I understood Ben to be politically astute, persistent, and tough yet caring. He believed strongly in preserving the quality of life here. He came along at a crucial time and without Ben Tarver, Pleasanton could have been more like Walnut Creek or San Jose than the town we enjoy today.
