Just wondering how someone with a "prior conviction for embezzlement" gets a job as a controller...geesh don't employers check references anymore?!

She never should have been allowed to work AGAIN as a controller. Some people never learn. I feel horrible for the recent company she was working at. She needs to have the book thrown at her.

Parent of Two is a registered user.

My guess is that she got the second job before she got busted for the original job. One of the terms she likely negotiated in the plea bargain was "no publicity" (and it's not like a pre-IPO company is going to brag to shareholders that they just got ripped off). Someone needs to search local firms with X number of people that have job postings for a new controller so we can find out who the company is.

I know there was a problem like this with the Plastic Surgery Center of Pleasanton but the girl was not 51yrs old.
I have been on the loosing side of a book keeper that was caught stealing about 30 to $40,000 from my company. We had her arrested and got nothing out of it, they slapped her on the hand. She was suppost to make resatusion but she just left the state and we were left with nothing but a bad taste in our mouth of our court system that is not working they way it should.

She is a complete criminal...I am familar with her previous case. This harmless looking soccer mom even appeared on BevMo commercials a couple years ago. "Hi, I'm Kathy and I shop at BevMo on the way home from stealing my employer blind!"

Ms Smith that was directly on par. I've know Kathy for a long time and was blown away by how she could steal and smile to you at the same time. She's a true con. I hope she spends decades behind bars.

That woman was my neighbor, never thought that she would do anything of that sort. Crazy what people do for money

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

That said, I hope the book gets thrown at her and companies start taking a much closer look at who they hire. If the 2nd company would have called the previous one, wouldn't they have been able to get references? Even if the references didn't (or couldn't) talk about the previous conviction, you;d think at the very least they would be negative about other things or neutral at teh very least, thereby indirectly raising red flags...

Just like Mr. X, I too knew her. And yes, she could smile at you and stab you in the back. She obviously didn't care about the repercussions of her actions. She should have learned her lesson the first time. I am not surprised she did this again. But, with that said, I do feel sorry for her family, they didn't ask for this.

PLEASANTON — An ex-con on probation for embezzlement was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of stealing more than $900,000 from her most-recent employer, police said.
Kathryn Britto-Florence, 51, worked as a senior accountant at an appliance installation services company in Pleasanton, which police did not identify.
"She was paying herself her regular salary and a different paycheck as another employee that didn't exist," Pleasanton police Lt. Mark Senkle said.

Some people can't handle the temptation. Everyone makes mistakes greater or worse they are all still mistakes. Don't make urselves feel better because u see someone else do more wrong then maybe you have. Kathy did wrong and she is doing her time, the ones who love her will still be supporting her because everyone deserves forgiveness. Were only human, so please stop sending negative anonymous* comments on the internet... Really? didn't your mothers ever teach you that if you don't have anything nice to say don't say it at all? Thank you.
