Teen attacked at Stoneridge Mall says no one helped

Original post made on May 24, 2012

It was an ordinary day for Foothill High School junior Sonny Tripathy when he went to Stoneridge Shopping Center Saturday April 8 during the afternoon before his junior prom. Forgetting the receipt for his tuxedo, Tripathy walked to his car parked in the JC Penney lot and it was there at about 3 p.m. that he was attacked by three young men.

I think the Penney's store manager handled things well and was attempting to secure his store and customers in his care from a brawl of unknown origin. How could he really know who was the cause of the brawl? Or, that if he let one bloodied person in the store, that the whole fight wouldn't enter the store and endanger unwitting customers, some of whom would be old and vulnerable or children. Perhaps the aggressors had guns. The manager was protecting the greater number of customers - how could he know who the aggressor was with the evidence in front of him? Being covered in blood does not prove innocence (although I do believe that we have ultimately discovered Tripathy was a victim of others).

If I were in Penney's, I would appreciate that the manager protected the customers. It is apparent that he also made sure Mr. Tripathy was not dying and could be helped by others (the Security and Police). And...the police seem to think his quick thinking gave them the data they needed.

If I were a customer in the store, I would be glad the manager acted as he did.

We need better surveillance in the parking lot and...a police station right by the Mall.

The problem is with security in the parking lot!!!

I would say this was all good work and judgement on the part of the store manager.

Let's hope the Tripathys don't sue Penneys.

Are we commenting/complaining about a 6 year old story or was it a mistake by PW?
