Santorum’s campaign slogan, “The Courage to Fight for America” can be heard in all of his speeches, banners and on his website, www.ricksantorum.com.
Very conservative among other conservatives, Santorum is outspoken about his views against gay marriage and abortion. A fervent outspoken critic of Obama, Santorum said the President was undermining America’s freedoms.
"The principal purpose of America was to make sure each and every person was free. Ladies and gentlemen, that is at stake now," Santorum said in a pun aimed at U.S. government sponsored healthcare. "Every single American will be hooked to the government with an IV."
In 2003, the then-Senator compared same-sex marriage to "man on dog" relationships in an AP interview. Miley Cyrus, the teenaged star of Disney’s Hannah Montana show, and current pop diva, recently twittered about Santorum’s views against gay marriage.
Santorum’s responded to Cyrus’s negative Twitter in an interview on Chris Stigall’s radio show, “When she came out against me, we actually had a family meeting and decided whether I can continue on in this process and, you know, we had to talk to the kids and it was difficult," Santorum said sarcastically. "But we’re actually holding out -- we still think we might get Lindsay Lohan. And with that, you know, we can continue. We’re waiting."
Santorum got nailed in the 2006 re-election bid for Senator against Bob Casey. Not only did he lose; he lost by nearly 20 points! This was a huge defeat considering Santorum had held the senate seat for two terms.
It will be interesting to see how Santorum handles himself against republican heavyweights such as Mitt Romney, Ron Paul, Newt Gingrich and Michele Bachman during the June 13th republican debate. June 13th could be a TKO for Santorum’s political career if things don’t go well for him. Stay tuned.
