Helping Hearts

Original post made by james degriz, Pleasanton Meadows, on Jun 4, 2008

JoAnn Koobatian is a gift to the community. She has touched more people during her time as choir director at Foothill High School and Village High School than can be counted. She has a BA in music from San Jose State University. She lives in Livermore with her husband Richard and their young child.

However, disaster struck in 2006, and a bright light of the Tri-Valley Area was diagnosed with cancer. Since that time, she has paid out thousands upon thousands of dollars for scans, tests, treatments, chemo, and other therapies.

JoAnn has given so much of herself to kids and adults in this community... and the time has come to give back. Foothill's choir students, past and present, will belt out some tunes in support of teacher JoAnn Koobatian, who is battling thymic cancer.

The concert will be held Thursday, June 5 at 7 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1225 Hopyard Road, in Pleasanton.

There is no fee to attend, but donations will be accepted gladly. There will also be a bake sale. Please make checks payable to the Mrs. K Donation Fund. Money raised will be donated to Mrs. K to help pay for health care expenses not covered by insurance, such as the $3,300 PET scans.

Donations may also be dropped off in the front office with Claudia See or mailed to the Mrs. K Donation Fund, 3404 Ashton Court, Pleasanton 94588. Please make checks payable to Mrs. K Donation Fund.

Thank you to former student Lauren Bateman for organizing the concert and 9th-grader Vicky Binder for setting up the Mrs. K Donation Fund.

We went to the concert last Thursday. The kids, with only 2 rehersals, did a fantastic job. It was very well organized and the singing was beautiful. The best part of watching the look on the kids faces. They seems so glad to be able to do something for a very special woman. Mrs. K made our son's time at Foothill very special. we're keeping her in our prayers!
