Police Logs

Original post made by cautious1 on Aug 24, 2010

I really think accurate police logs need to be posted where the public has access to them. This past week alone I personally know of one person whose car was burglarized in daylight, and 2 people, living a block apart, whose homes were burglarized. Not to mention the most recent incidents listed in the news. I think it is our right as citizens of the community to know what is happening in our community so we can be more cautious. We no longer live in the Pleasanton where you could leave your doors unlocked!

Well... VERY interesting! After reading a comment from MainStreetDiva on the David Hammer brawl post where she said that her reply in another thread had been removed because she referenced a Pleasanton Patch link, I checked back here and saw that my reply to cautious1 regarding the history of the very-short-lived (i.e. only ONE time) Police log on the PW online edition was summarily removed!

I'm sorry to say, but that kind of censorship is TOTALLY against allowing free discussion, Mr. Bing and Ms. Channell-Allen and extremely unethical! There were no bad words in my post, no character defamations, merely facts and a link to the similar police/fire log on the Pleasanton Patch website, with a note that I was in NO way associated with the Pleasanton Patch, but that I felt it was a very valuable service to the Pleasanton community that the PW staff could also provide.

Obviously, this was considered somehow a slight to the PW staff? And was considered a comment that deserved yanking without explanation?

Tsk tsk. (Of course, this will be removed by PW staff by tomorrow/Thursday 6am at the latest, so don't be surprised!)

Ha, pretty darn funny: a search on the PW website Town Square page, Web Link= with "I fully agree with you" and the "Town Square" option clicked off in the Search pulls this up:

Pleasanton Weekly - Town Square Topic2 posts
cautious1, I fully agree with you, and have advocated in the past for the PW to post the Police logs/blotters in a timely fashion in the online version of ...
www.pleasantonweekly.com/square/index.php?i=3&d=&t=5709

However, my post is no longer there under that topic... which is *this* topic that you're looking at.

Now, I'm not a huge supporter of Cholo, but in this case, I'd have to use his/her standard phrase "mes petits... BUSTED... tee hee hee"!

Here's what the PW staff decided to delete; pasted here again from the cached version of this page on Google. Is this really worthy of deletion, Jeb?

cautious1, I fully agree with you, and have advocated in the past for the PW to post the Police logs/blotters in a timely fashion in the online version of the "paper", i.e., on this website. Here's a previous discussion of that topic:

Web Link

along with some information from the PW staff itself. After this discussion, the PW *did* post the police log/blotter on the website for a total of one week:

I'm not sure what happened; whether it was considered too controversial for the citizens to have timely information about police calls and crime in the city... or what other reason it might have been. Politics, perhaps? Pity, if so.

The Pleasanton Patch is still carrying this information in a very timely fashion, posting it on Tuesdays as soon as it's released by the PPD, so you might want to check over there:

p.s. I'm not connected with the Pleasanton Patch in any way; I just find this a very admirable and valuable public service that they perform, rather what the public might expect their local newspaper to deliver.
