Town Square

PW is the worst kind of PC - Censorship is alive and well at PW

Original post made by Dan Doerr, Another Pleasanton neighborhood, on Nov 23, 2009

To stop the commentary on a very real and current issue, namely, how to interpret potentially very serious warning signs presented by extremists, Emily decided that we should no longer have the right to comment, as reflected in her cavalier and blatantly dishonest closing post:

Take it easy on Emily, the thread was locked after 7 days, not 5, and there is another thread still open on the same exact topic.
The PW editors appear to not want to have to police multiple threads for the inflammatory stuff people post here anonymously.
In addition, users are allowed to post new threads on the same story, so censorship is hardly a term you can use to describe the thread locking and comment deleting that occurs here.
Granted, I think in forums on many news sites, PC does come into effect, i.e. commenters can get away with saying things about one religious group or politician that would be deleted if it were said about a different religion or politician, but that reflects California culture and America in general.

Sorry You are right. It was 7 days especially if you count from midnight till 11:00 am as a day.

Doesn't change the fact that the reason given is total BS and it shouldn't have been locked at all. Previous comment was only a couple of hours previous.

And the other thread - also locked. Just not with the dishonesty in Emily's post that the "comments had run their course"

cholo

I have noticed you a lot on these boards. You generally contribute nothing except personal attacks on legitimate posters. Here you go again!

I won't expect you to understand but argumentem ad hominem is a fallacy of reasoning.

You should leave grown up matters to grown ups.

OK?

I humbly apologize for my behavior. I often use vulgarity in my posts, attack other posters, and accuse anyone who holds a different opinion than my own as being racist.
The truth is I am a lonely person. I have no friends and posting on these blogs is the extent of my social life.
I deliberately make inflammatory comments to get attention.
DD, you are right, I need to grow up.

Cholo, your comments add no value. Get a life and become a productive member of society.

You complain about censorship, then in the same post attempt to censor someone for posting something you don't like.

"Free speech! Open discourse! Opposing points of view." <----Your rant

Now it is up to Dan Doerr to decide what is of value on this site. I seem to remember many who did the same to the prattle and tattle gentleman.

Interesting. Sounds like you don't mind censorship after all.

You know I've noticed this Cholo guy constantly bashing people and taking comments too personally. He does post alot too, but I think he is a senior citizen not a youngster. I don't know many young people whom read PW and I know of NO Livermore residents that do. He's amusing at best and pathetic at worst. He also employs a technic that is used by extremist, "you hate Muslims". Making inflammatory comments with no basis in facts. Let him drone on.
