Whats up with Bert's closing

Original post made by Downtowner on Oct 21, 2007

Bert's Hofbrau sure didn't last long. The food was OK but it didn't seem to catch on. Also it was open weird hours. So it closed up, and then there was a Liquor License Application in the window for another restaurant (Greek? French?) but now even that is gone. Anybody know the whole story?

If you go by, there's a bunch of new stuff in there, looks like it's having a bit of a makeover. Rumor is also that it's going to open back up soon with some more regular hours.

Reopen as Bert's, or as the Greek place?

The liquor license application notice in the window was for a Greek-named business but now there's nothing there, and you can't see in, at least from Main St.

I really hope it's a Greek place!
As for the Hofbrau, I never ate there because I was so disappointed that they named their restaurant a Hofbrau-Steakhouse and they didn't even have German beer on tap! Or even in a bottle! Let alone even their own "brau." Why name your restaurant a Hofbrauhaus then? In my opinion, they deserved to have gone out of business.

I stuck my head in this afternoon, and spoke with someone supervising the renovations, and he confirmed that it is going to be a Greek place, opening in about a month. I'm excited!

It's now the Agora Bistro, and a darned good place, too. Try it!
