The Pleasanton City Council, to its credit, voted Tuesday to extend Stoneridge Drive from its current barrier at Trevor Parkway to El Charro Road, where it will connect to Jack London Boulevard in Livermore. The new traffic artery, when completed in 2011 or 2012, will give Pleasanton motorists a faster and easier route to Livermore and the multi-million-dollar retail, recreational, senior housing and auto mall complex to be built on Staples Ranch, a 124-acre vacant parcel at the southwest corner of El Charro and I-580. At the same time, an extended Stoneridge will fulfill a General Plan obligation dating back two decades that called for a cross-town, intra-city thoroughfare. It was put in the plan to provide a way for motorists to travel between Livermore and Pleasanton without having to use the freeway.
