the entire original bay bridge (both west and east section) where built for $77mio ($6mio UNDER budget and in a total of 3.5 years. in to whose pockets exactly did all the money go on this 100x more expensive (still 30x if adjusted for inflation), 3 times longer project?

I agree with "Neutral". I have never heard of any companies that would be awarded $20 million for delivery a defective (cracked steel bolts) "end product" NOT on time that caused many folds more than the projected cost. They rushed through this, and put "band aid" fixes. They are still working on the bridge. It is NOT a finished job. No got fired or demoted. And, we paid several million dollar to an activity/entertainment firm without having a new Bay bridge "celebration party". couldn't we have gotten our deposit back. Someone screwed up, and that team should be fired or demoted. Government contractors are fined x%, based on delinquency and how decfective the end result and quality of work. What happened here. How come no one is reprimanded. The innocent tax payers are getting punished, for being quiet. We, the tax payers, are their ATM machines. We need to have a "class action" suit against CalTran, the contractors who worked on this project. This is absurd!

The new bridge is much safer, and the working conditions for building it were also much safer than for the old bridge. Many men lost their lives building the old bridge. We don't do things that way any more, and that's for the best.
