At a special meeting on August 6th, the Pleasanton City Council unanimously approved construction of a 345-unit apartment complex on Bernal Avenue at Stanley Boulevard that will include a three-building retail center with a drug store and drive-through pharmacy.
This development is known as PUD-87.
On Tuesday, August 20th, the City Council will have a 2nd reading of the Ordinance that approves this development, basically a standard Parliamentary procedure, and final 'rubber stamp' by the Council, as it's currently listed as item 6 on the Consent Calendar of the Council's Meeting Agenda:
6. Second reading and adoption Ordinance No. 2075 approving the application of Ring Financial, Inc. for planned unit development (PUD) development plan approval, as filed under Case PUD-87.
If you were unaware of this project and are concerned about increased traffic and the impact this development will have on already packed Pleasanton schools, I urge you to attend the City Council meeting on Tuesday, August 20th, starting at 7 p.m., to strongly voice your objections.
The City Council has 'fast-tracked' this project, with little regard for its impacts on traffic on 1st Street and Bernal, in particular, and on our schools, which, if you have children, you know are filled to capacity right now. There was no mention/discussion of how this project would affect schools, or what mitigations, if any, would be enacted to accomodate more school-age children that this project will likely bring.
If you have concerns with this project, come and speak your mind, otherwise, the Mayor and City Council will assume you don't care what they do.
