As unfair as I think MLB is being to San Jose, I have to step back and remind myself that MLB is a private business. There's no difference between MLB denying San Jose a team because of the proximity of the Giants, and McDonald's Corp. denying a franchise for a new location because it deems it too close to another. We may all "feel" ownership of one MLB team or another, but the fact is that it's somebody else's business, and those owners are free to run it as the see fit. Into the ground, perhaps, but it's their choice. Now shame on MLB for hiding behind the antitrust agreement, but more shame on Congress for granting it in the first place.

Is it *really* someone else's business when the taxpayers subsidize hundreds of millions? Maybe we should demand voting privileges in exchange for our investment.

Let's not lose sight of the fact that the nearly-bankrupt City of San Jose is suing a private enterprise owned by billionaires for the right to build a highly subsidized baseball stadium for one of those billionaires. There's so much wrong with this that I don't even know where to begin.
