Thank goodness these tax measures failed. We have had enough of Sacramento's shell games. They take money that's supposed to go to transporation, and spend it on their pet projects (like outrageous compensation for state workers, the vast array of abused social programs, and all sorts of freebies for illegal aliens. Then they want additional taxes for transportation to make up for the money they misappropirated. They take money that's supposed to go for education, whiz it away on their pet programs, and then say we have to have additional taxes to make up for what they stole. Less than a week after Prop 30 was passed, Gov. Moonbeam is already talking about how that money is going to "fix our budget woes", help pay for the bullet train, and help pay for the water diversion tunnel. And you know the unions that put him in office, put the Democrat super-majority in control of the legislature, and got Prop 30 passed are going to be their to get their cut of the action. Thank goodness for the 2/3 requirement for raising taxes. However, I am sure the super-majority loons will figure out how to get that requirement ousted.

That was too close. I wish the voters actually did their research instead of looking at the glossy mailers to really understand this permanent tax and automatic authorization of one billion dollars forever. However, the campaign to pass this measure (financed by the unions and construction companies that would have received the contracts) was pretty large and there was no money spent against the measure.
It is also suspicious that it is very difficult to find the campaign financing reports on the Alameda County campaign financing website. It does not even have Measure B1 listed as a measure. If you then search on the name 'B1', it gives you an error. I found that if you search on 'transportation' that you can finally find it. The county sure does not want the public to see this 'public' information and I believe that requires an investigation into itself. As of 10/20/12, the Yes on B1 campaign spent $632,181.25 (probably more spent since that filing date). There appears to be no money spent to defeat the campaign.
I suggest people go to the county campaign filing website at Web Link and search on 'transportation' to see the organizations that contributed to this campaign. It is a who's who of who would have received our tax money including a donation of $25,000 from the SEIU public employees union and $24,500 from Parsons Brinkerhoff Inc from New York, a major public works construction company. It would be great if our local papers did the investigative work and filled in the public on where the money came from.
