Fraudulent disability claims are a huge issue which should be part of the governors 12 pension reform plan, but it isn't. San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed has made this an issue regarding their pension reform plan citing the number of police employees taking disability retirements at close to 50%, and 67 percent of Fire Department employees also benefiting from a 50% reduction in taxes.
It's less than ironic that two of the employee groups most associated with campaign literature promoting the need for additional TAXES, to ensure taxpayer safety, is the biggest abusers of the disability scam that allows them to not pay taxes.
For people that have been paying attention you probably already understand that politicians have rewarded public safety unions by lowering the threshold of what actually constitutes a disability. It is beyond ridiculous what these people are getting away with and the disability evaluation is a complete sham. It all starts with the assumption that any pain experienced by public employees IS job related. Aches and pains from ageing are considered work related injuries. Wife hits you with a bat because you were cheating - the injuries are assumed to be work related. Work related injuries under these liberal standards entitle public employees to receive large pensions while only paying 50% of the tax that us regular citizens would have to pay - assuming we had a six figure pension.
Jerry Brown's very shallow pension reform proposal, which the democrats are stonewalling, doesn't even address the issue of abusive and fraudulent disability claims even though everyone knows it is happening. I hope Chuck Reed is our next governor.
No More Taxes.
