Town Square

Tobacco shop/ Hooka shop on First St.

Original post made by Joe on Sep 26, 2011

Has anyone gone by the tobacco shop on First Street downtown?
I was walking past and it appears to have several water pipes, aka,
hookas for sale. Is this a good fit for a store so near the school campus on the corner of First and Bernal? I am very concerned as to why
this is allowed by the city. I believe these items are used for smoking
something other than just tobacco.
I would like to hear from others, am I wrong to worry?

I would not worry.

In general, I believe that people who want to drink Martinis will do so whether or not they have Martini glasses. In other words, it's the drinker that looks for the glass rather that the glass that looks for the drinker.

Well said Mike.
Joe, do you really think that a tobacco shop could negatively influence those kids from the continuation school? Please, get a grip.

So what if they sell water pipes and bongs? The store is surrounded by eating establishments that sell ALCOHOLIC beverages. Is selling a pot smoking device any worse than booze? Only to our stigma filled society perhaps.

Still having problems distiguishing between illegal drugs and the legal sale of alcohol? Short term memory problems or just ignorance?
In any case, bongs are considered drug paraphenailia. But, go for it and see how long you stay out of jail. Whether you like it or not, it's the law.

well well well...trashing continuation students...again...most likely the majority of pot heads in Plutonia are the residents who appear clean...i wouldn't be surprised if 70% of Plutonians have taken an itsy bitsy hit...just sayin...tee hee hee, tee hee hee...

if it's illegal know that you might get busted if somebody turns you in...that's why we have laws...gots to live by the law or else...

It may be against the law but with medical marajauna so readily available to anyone over 18 cops dont really care about marajauna anymore. there more focused on drunk drivers (the real danger) rather than lazy stoners.

You raise a good point. The store should not be handling illegal merchandise.

Hookahs are not at all out of line in a number of places around the world, some pretty close to home. Like guns and cars, however, you have to mind what you do with them to stay out of trouble.

medical marijuana is available...i can't speak for the "cops" but i hope that whoever is smoking keeps it out of the hands of children...if you're an adult and smoking it's still against the law...if you get busted by a police officer who does care that you're smoking, you may receive a citation that you're not prepared to pay...young people experiment...i hope for them that they remain safe and are not put in harms way...

Spot on. Just because the cops don't enforce a law doesn't mean they can't or won't when it suits them.

(Though I personally feel that unenforced laws should be struck from the books after a certain time because random enforcement is dangerously close to entrapment)

as a concered parent, i feel like my son will be absorbed into the life of meth by hanging out at the smoke shop. so i agree, we should SHUT THAT PLACE DOWN!!!! DOWN WITH DRUGS! as my great grandma always said, your only as good as your choices, and i dont want my son making those choices. I SAY WE BURN IT TO THE GROUND

Non medicinal pot is illegal. Bongs, pipes and other paraphernalia aren't. They have been sold in stores for decades. You can't confiscate them unless the law is changed or it has traces of an illegal drug on it.

You people are obsessed with pot aren't you? I'm more scared of drunk drivers than stoners stuffing their faces with oreo cookies.
