Synchronizing of Traffic Lights

Original post made by Stacey on May 30, 2007

Anyone know when traffic lights along major routes are going to be synchronized? This idea has been batted around by city officials and candidates for about 6 years, most recently as campaign promises in the last election, as part of the solution for Pleasanton traffic problems. Getting stopped at every light on Stoneridge from 680 to Santa Rita is rather annoying. It would also be nice to see lights at minor intersections turn into flashing yellow or flashing red lights at night. It was absurd to get stopped at a red light on Hopyard and Black at 11pm Monday night so a single car could turn onto Hopyard.

Driving cross town on main thoroughfairs like Santa Rita or Hopyard should be a breeze. With all the environmental efforts in other areas, this should be important. 30 cars stopping and starting wastes fuel, causes increased tailpipe emissions, and noise pollution from engines and brakes. There is also an increased possibility of accidents and certainly annoyance. Cars entering from side streets may have to wait a little longer to enter, but once on a main street will make up that time. Many turn right on red anyway.

Timed lights would seem to deter speeding if set properly. A drive through Pleasanton should be Pleasant!

Are you kidding? It's the city's goal to make it as miserable as possible to drive across Pleasanton. This will discourage people from trying to drive through. Just because it makes life miserable for those of us who live here doesn't matter.

In case you wonder why there are multiple postings, you get an error message when posting that says you didn't enter the "non-spamming" code properly.

We have a major "cut through" or "alt. route" problem in Pleasanton because highway congestion and south Livermore having poor access to the highways. We will invite even more traffic, more pollution, more accidents. If we didn't have the 'out of towners' buzzing through on their way to other locations it would be GREAT to synchronize the lights.
