It's sickening to hear this news, even though we all know it exists. Surely, we will all be interested in how the outcome compares to that of our other accident (where Laurel lost her life). Equal and fair treatment under the law will become glaringly obvious.
To both our teen and adult participants in these forums...this is an example of us how parallel our lives really are.

These two accidents took place the same day and, although this one didn't result in a death, I'm sure it's no less tragic to the family of the nine year old girl. We talk so much about teens, alcohol and driving, especially after Laurel was killed, but this is a reminder that the problem isn't age-specific. This 53 year old adult had his own toddler kid with him too, no less. Will he be held accountable for that as well? I'm pretty sure there are laws that address putting kids in harms way, such as he did, by driving recklessly or under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Maybe some kind of child endangerment statute applies here, but I didn't see it mentioned in the papers.

I agree with both comments above. God bless Laurel and Katy, but it is not just our youth, and this man had his 4 year old in the car no less....And the little girl in the hospital still...Let the law hold this man accountable and the punishment be harsh..Drinking and Drive WILL NEVER be o.k.
