WASHINGTON, June 16 (Reuters) - California's budget crisis due to the U.S. recession is one that the state is going to have to solve on its own, the White House said on Tuesday.
"It's obviously not an easy time for the state of California," White House spokesman Robert Gibbs told a briefing when asked if the administration would provide emergency financing for the state.
"We'll continue to monitor the challenges that they have, but this budgetary problem unfortunately is one that they're going to have to solve," Gibbs said

Continuing crisis helps to advance the cause for increased taxes and government control. As you begin to feel the pain and panic you're more likely to agree to anything if the government will just save us. California's failure will help convince the electorate of other states that fed control is the only answer. Don't fall for it.

Barack will not let down California as he will find the money somewhere. Unfortunately without reforming our retirement programs no amount of money will ever be enough money.

As an economist it's difficult to tell people that "economic correction" is a good thing. A business shrinks and grows (hires and fires) on a regular basis. It's tough on people, but we accept it without a flinch. California needs to understand that scarcity of resources is a principle that cannot be violated. It's like gravity. We can pretend to want more free money from somewhere, but in the long run California will be a better place when it learns to live within its means.
