An article about whether it matters if the state propositions pass on May 19

Original post made by Resident, Another Pleasanton neighborhood, on May 14, 2009

It seems to me that whether the propositions pass on May 19 or not, the state will be in trouble. The mercury news had this today:

"Schwarzenegger actually delivered two budget plans — one that assumes the ballots measures pass, and another based on them failing, Both scenarios are grim, but passage of the Props. 1A through 1F would make the situation somewhat less ugly, the governor said.

But either way, the pain will be severe and widespread — extending from schools and prisons to health care and local services."

I would rather not have a bandaid that helps some but not much (no matter what, the situation will be ugly). I would rather have the state legislature and the governor go back and do some real work: come up with real solutions that fix the ongoing budget deficits in California. Why don't we start by reforming the outrageous pensions negotiated by the unions under Davis? Why don't we get rid of so much unneeded stuff like County of Educations? The list goes on, just get to work. I urge everyone to vote NO on all propositions except for 1F. Send this message to all those folks in Sacramento: get to work and come up with real solutions.

YES on 1F (no raises) and NO on everything else
