Loud helicopters?

Original post made by Downtowner on Apr 3, 2009

There have been two helicopters circling low (and loud) above Pleasanton for about the last hour (9 to 10 pm) tonight (Friday, April 3). At one point the two were in close formation. Anybody know what's up and whose helicopters they are?

Camp Parks often serves as a landing point for Army helicopters from local units, including but not limited to UH-60 Blackhawk and CH-47 Chinook Helicopters. Formation flying is standard training and such aircraft can be quite loud.

There's training at Camp Parks tonight, till 1am. I was outside when the flew overhead and it was super loud! Here's the link to the article about the training

I'm glad to hear they are our helicopters. They were so low I thought they would be attacking soon.

I thought they might be military! Thanks, Matt and PToWN94566.

Thanks PToWN94566. Now I can rest knowing there is not a major public emergency going on...that is if I can rest with the helicopter noise.

Very true, Brad. Living very close to both 680 and Foothill Rd. and hearing the helicopters back and forth and hovering and back and forth and hovering again for quite a few hours this evening raises a feeling of unease and worry... especially for those of us who have had our teens on their way to friends' houses and the movies, then on their way home again.

Good to hear. Was having flashbacks. Tried to reach PPD at 11:20 PM - they must have been receiving so many calls switchboard was busy. At that point, went looking for Charlie.

It comes with living next to a military reserve base, during a time of conflict.

Hope these Marines got what they needed out of the training. They're welcome any time!

This little bit of noise doesn't compare to the regular helicopters and sonic booms (jets) over California in the 1970s and I'm sure that doesn't compare to all the California airbases activities in the 1940s.

I just googled about it because I was worried, I see them and hear them. PToWN94566, I cannot see that link.
