Spring is in the Air...my Porch is Bare!
Original post made by Claudette McDermott, Del Prado, on Mar 26, 2009
Today was just too hard to resist getting out in the garden and ripping out the dead plants and planting some bright color spots in my front yard. I made a trip to Home Depot and picked out some colorful annuals for pots along the bottom of the front window. I even decided to do a little painting below the window before planting to freshen up things. It was getting hot out there so as I dashed back into the house to grab a glass of water via the front porch and I noticed the Bare Spot where I had a large canvas painting hanging above a few chairs! Ugh! I didn't think I had to worry about theft here in my neighborhood but I guess I was wrong. Nothing else was missing, the iron art objects in the yard along the side of the house was still there, just a couple of feet away 10 color spot plants were still there there waiting to be planted, other garden art items still there..... Perhaps I should feel honored that someone would risk getting caught plucking the oil canvas painting measuring 30x40 called "Through the Keyhole" in a brightly lit porch. Just didn't think I would have a theft problem here in such a nice neighborhood.... Reflecting back on why I did put the painting out there, my reason, I wanted to give the porch a welcoming artistic look. I enjoy sitting in the front porch area and believe it was the right thing to do. There are pranksters out there but normally harmless. Perhaps they needed art but wasn't able to afford it.... But if for some reason it should be returned to me on my porch some evening with the cloak of darkness, I wouldn't mind. If not, Enjoy the work as I do love to share the Gift of Art. I've posted the picture of the painting on this site. It's oil on canvas with metallic embossing, mixed media. A Surrealistic impression of a woman with flowing hair glancing through a keyhole :) to the outside, the future.
