Tri-Valley Haven seeking donations to help homeless handle summer heat

Original post made on Jun 11, 2013

Tri-Valley Haven is seeking donations to help the homeless combat the heat this summer. Contributions of sunscreen, reusable water bottles, hats, cooling bandanas, umbrellas and handheld fans and misters for men, women and children are especially needed. The Homeless Summer Outreach event will take place from 1-4 p.m. Wednesday, June 19 at the Tri-Valley Haven Food Pantry, located at 418 Junction Ave. in Livermore. Donations also can be dropped off at Tri-Valley Haven, 3663 Pacific Ave., Livermore by 5 p.m. Tuesday, June 18. Last year, Tri-Valley Haven's Food Pantry served over 6,400 individuals, representing over 2,000 households in Livermore, Dublin and Pleasanton. For more information about the Haven, visit www.trivalleyhaven.org or call (925) 449-5842.

While I think this cause is worthwhile & very necessary I am finding it difficult to accept that we, meaning the USA, have so many people that are without a roof over their heads. Of course there have always been people that like living this way, but, in reality most, do not. Those with Special needs or Mental Illness need help. I am so tired of seeing people begging with their children holding up signs. This is a growing problem everywhere. Yes, folks it exists right here in the Tri-Valley area & yet, people label these citizens in all kinds of ways.

I too think this is a growing problem, and one we as a nation could solve if we have the WILL to do so. Homelessness and hunger are solvable problems, but it doesn't seem to be a priority to Congress or the President to make it their priority. We, the citizens, must make it our priority and push to make it theirs!
