When my family and I first moved to Pleasanton in 1986, it was a growing, world-class place to raise a family. Neighbors were friendly, people pitched in, and Judeo-Christian values were the norm. There was a true cultural consensus, people played by the rules, and we felt secure in the leadership of President Reagan. It really was morning in America here!
Fast forward 27 years and things have changed, often for the worse. Free spending city leaders have created an out of control City budget that may soon lead to bankruptcy. I never thought we would be heading the way of Oakland, but here we are. Big salary, big money-teachers (I've seen plenty driving BMWs) demand big raises and bonuses while people like you and me foot the bill. God has been taken out of the classroom while I'm paying for the whole unfunded pension liability. Now the schools are broke and begging for more and more of my money. Big state government is demanding we build 20 story high-rise Section 8 towers.Apartment buildings have already done enough damage to this town. Unneeded, big government regulations have stopped most development from coming here. They go to cities like Tracy that care about business. Drugs problems are running wild in our schools yet "leaders" fight against a Walmart supermaket. Now I'm hearing about 38% vacancy levels in our downtown while wild teenagers scare off good businesses. According to a study by a local church, family values have gone down 57% since the year 2000.
That's why we need strong, conservative, Tea Party leadership to straighten out this mess. Get government off my back. Whatever happen to freedom and liberty? Pleasanton was once great, lets get it back!
