I do not have any children in the PUSD system. So I am just asking whether PUSD requires students to read any American History textbooks authored by Howard Zinn?
If so, did you know that he was a member of the Communist Party USA (CPUSA)? He was extremely anti-American and may be one of the reasons why there is much less patriotism in the US.
I would encourage parents of PUSD students to take a critical look at the works of Howard Zinn and determine if his works are what you would like your students to believe about the US.
Zinn never mentions conservatism, which is obviously a disagreeable thing he would rather forget, or Christianity, a force that motivated much of the reforms Zinn favors. On foreign policy, Zinn's entire history is one of a catalog of American imperialism's onward march of oppression at home and power abroad. It is not surprising that Zinn treats WW II in the same way, since in Zinn's eyes the war is brought down to its "meanest components: profits for military industries, racism toward the Japanese, and the senseless destruction of enemy cities." Even during World War II, America to Zinn was as immoral as the nations it was fighting.
If you don't know anything about Zinn, here is an article below.
Dinesh D'Souza's film "America" which is currently showing at Hacienda and the Vine shines a light on Zinn and his motives, and provides a counter-argument that America, while not perfect, has been a positive force in the World.
