District attorneys reach $2.25 million settlement with Safeway

Just as Safeway annuonced its merger with Albertsons, several Bay Area district attorneys said they had reached a $2.25 million settlement with Pleasanton-based Safeway Inc. of a lawsuit that alleged the grocery chain sometimes charged customers more than its advertised and posted prices.

So let me get this straight. Consumers were harmed by the inflated charges yet the $2.25M goes into the state coffers because they took the time to investigate and file the case? How is this considered a win for anyone but the attorneys involved?

Sounds like Safeway got screwed and so did the 99%. I'm sure Safeway will have to raise prices to cover their losses on this. Again, the consumer gets screwed.
