Are only female high-school seniors eligible for these scholarships? Based on what I read on the web site, I understood it's open to both boys and girls, but only girls have been selected since this program started.

Interesting comment about the boys... prior to this year the selection was made based on a recommendation by the principals at the 3 high schools in Pleasanton. This year, the Community of Character requested applications by announcing it in the papers, our website and newsletter, as well as announcing it in the schools and e-connection. This year there were 15 applications, which were by the way quite incredible... we can be very proud of these kids... and only 3 of them were boys. During the selection process, we blank out the names... course if they were on a football team or a cheerleader, its not hard to figure... but male/female is not a consideration. You've been on the website, all the criteria and applications are there, not even grades are a criteria for this one, just character and service.
