It’s Dec. 12, 2012 or 12/12/12, the last time we will experience a sequential day, month, and year combination in our lifetimes. The next time will be 10/10/10 in 2110.

On this unique date, special events are planned as a World Day of Connectedness, including:

Ceremonies marking a new time of life based on loves at Lake Titicaca in Peru.

Networking events with the theme of “Entrepreneurship and Technology” in Lisbon, Portugal.

A day of “Vigil” is planned in Vancouver.

An “All you need is Love” concert will be held today in Amsterdam.

In San Francisco, the big event marking 12/12/12 will be a majestic gathering of yogis, poets and mystics at Union Square.

But the big event is the Concert for Sandy Relief to benefit the Robin Hood Relief Fund being presented in New York by Chase.

Some of the largest names in the music industry will come together through several live streams and social media integrations that will allow the charity concert to reach an unprecedented nearly 2 billion homes worldwide as possibly the most widely distributed music event in history.

Bon Jovi, Eric Clapton, Dave Grohl, Billy Joel, Alicia Keys, Chris Martin, The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band, Roger Waters, Kanye West, Eddie Vedder, The Who and Paul McCartney will perform at the one-night concert at 7:30 p.m. Eastern time at New York City’s Madison Square Garden, benefitting victims of Hurricane Sandy through the Robin Hood Relief Fund.

Facebook and other social media will help spread the 12/12/12 event far beyond New York City.

People will have access to the concert through 34 TV broadcasts across the globe, plus being streamed on nearly 30 websites, including YouTube, MTV.com, Hulu and Myspace. Several movie theaters in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut will screen the concert as well.

  1. I believe 12/12/12 would be a “compounded” date.

BUT, in honor of the compounding / repetitive nature of the date, I decided to honor both the date and myself by creating a new platform of life.

I want to live without burden, without disruption and distraction. I do not want to be marginalized by fractional thinking and politics. I want to create a “back in the day” ambiance in my head. I want to go the Farmer’s Market on Saturday and enjoy where I live. I want to walk down Main Street and appreciate that there are very few places left like this on the planet. I want to keep a balance in my life between work and my wife screaming at me to do things I don’t want to do. I want my kids to live their own life so that I can live mine (except on Holidays when I want them to visit … and other days when I miss them and they miss me). I want to see the turkeys in my back yard, and the deer walking down the street. I want to drench in the books at the Pleasanton Library even though they don’t give out plastic carry-out bags (now, I drop my armful of books walking to my car). I want to live like a king, even though my mortgage is hefty.

I pledge myself all these things (and more at a later date) because it’s a good place to be on 12/12/12

Gesh, I am truly glad I said that.

  2. It has been stated, Milo, that poetic words as you’ve provided are the mark of artistic genius. I am deeply touched. You’ve now officially heard it on the grapevine.

  3. Milo–loved your post!

A suggestion for the library books–take a bag with you (a cloth bag will usually fold up small enough to put into a pocket)!

  4. @milo. LOVED your post. It made my day. BTW, I was at the Library yesterday, saw people coming out with plastic bags, but I do not know if they brought them or the Library supplied them.
