A green Cadillac?

...In the middle of town?

...Far from any freeways?

...and these five geniuses didn't think they would be spotted after the crimes?

If you know of any teens looking to drop out of high school, be sure to show them this article.

The article leaves the impression that these thugs were targeting a specific person. I wonder if this was gang or drug related. It doesn't sound like random robberies.

Gun-toting, reactionary, individuals responding in gangster speak to the arrest of these four suspects. Sounds as if you all would make good company for each other. Not much difference between the two from where I'm sitting, though I'm sure you see an ocean of difference from where you are crouching, paranoid and angry, in your narrow-minded corner of Pleasanton.

Hey while the PD did a good job lets not forget the victims here, they came forward and reported the crime, ID'd the suspects and without their cooperation we wouldn't have 5 in custody. Not everyone is willing to do that. Good job Pleasanton residents and police!

Oh and for those of you that think these guys are going anywhere think again, bet they are out in a few days. Just because the police and residents do their jobs don't count on the courts doing theirs. Thats why the one guy was already out here to continue his life of crime.

I see the comments about "Let's see how tough they are when" I think it shows how tough they are as it took 5 of them to beat up one guy. It won't make you very tough to shoot them either. As just about anyone can squeeze a trigger. I tell you what.... I will leave my door unlocked tonight also and I do not own a gun.

Can't blame this one on BART. If parents spent more time teaching

I live near this area. There is ALWAYS shady characters hanging out at that corner. I believe they live there. Why do landlords rent to these people? I doubt they own their homes. The police are there, but not enough - I am happy they took control of this situation. More needs to be done. It is a very bad corner and the kids at AVHS call this the Ghetto. Not good for Pleasanton....

40 years ago this area was predominately Caucasian (as was most of Pleasanton) - it has gone through many changes over the years and seems to be getting more immigrants and Latinos living in the area - the rents ARE cheaper along the Vineyard Corridor - although calling it a "ghetto" seems a bit of a stretch...let's be clear about what is happening in our town - crime is enjoying a bit of an upswing and it is not centralized to Vineyard Ave.

Are you talking about the newer highly educated asians immigrants who pay enormous property taxes and have their kids raise test scores also are you talking about the Latino community that has been here since before the days of the Bernal Brothers?

Please clarify.

Out of those 5 suspects, only 1 of them has a Latino last name:

Stephen Castillo, 22, Tyler Koopman, 20, Daniel Meola, 22, Naeem McGhee, 18, and Andrew Barlow 23

Right, Sue! Let's burn the Constitution while you're at it.

These kids need counseling and proper guidance. They deserve a second chance. Locking them up and throwing away the keys will only increase the burden for us taxpayers. Besides, everyone is entitled to make a few mistakes in life...sorry we're not as "perfect" as you (or as you think you are).

Regarding the busted 5, it does't matter who they are but what they are. It's good that the PPD and the victims were able to do something about these thugs. The victims were probably hard working latinos who live in that area. Crime does not discriminate nor does it care. Crime can happen anywhere and to anyone, so be aware and prepared. Criminals come in all shapes and color. GOOD JOB PPD!

I do now know all of the men that were arrested. I do know two of them though. One grew up in Ruby Hill and has a college degree from a very competitive college (and that would be the one with the Latino last name by the way). Don't judge people you don't know. I'm not referring to the individuals who were arrested. I'm saying don't judge other people who weren't involved and assume that the responsible parties were Latinos just because of where this occurred. That is very narrow minded. Just because some people live in an area of town where rent is cheaper does not mean they are criminals.

I am as much ashamed to live in the same community as those of you who are judging those you don't know as I am to live in the same community of those who were arrested.

You do need victims to press charges. I know three of the five suspects and these are not mean men. They made a mistake and now they are going to try to fix it. Barlow came from a good home with parents that were always guiding him in the right direction. He slipped but deserves another chance as so all these boys. Before you know the facts please be careful how you judge. Not all the things stated in the article are completely true. If these boys beat anyone they would have been charged with the crime. Instead they are only being charged with robbery and disturbing the peace. Also three of the suspect were white, one was latino and the last one was african america. All but one of the families were there and are very upset with what happened. Also keep in mind that yes they have been charges with this crime but that doesnt always mean they did it. All of these boys have a past and a record that keeps the cops knocking on their doors when someone is robbed or something happens in the area that sounds like something that may look framiliar. they get profiled just like many kids in pleaseanton. Yes the ppd goes a good job but they also look for an easy suspect

Let's not make the criminals the victim here. They committed the crime, were caught, and need to deal with the consequences. The police did their job, catching those who committed the crime. Yes, they made it easy - green cadi - get serious. There is a reason they are known to the police. Don't play the victim card. Hope that each of the five use the experience to grow up. P-Town - yes, charges do not mean that they did it. In this case, they did. The victims know it; their families know it; you know it. No excuses.

Everybody in prison is innocent and did nothing. These kids are a bunch of punks and good for them they got arrested and I hope they learn from it. Every person in prison has an excuse and excuses are just that. Police do not go around arresting people for no reason and they had a reason to pop these punks. Good for Pleasanton police.

All of these boys have a past and a record that keeps the cops knocking on their doors when someone is robbed or something happens in the area that sounds like something that may look framiliar." Hellooooo, if he is already on parole, and all of these "boys" (interesting use of the work "boys" as 23 years old does NOT fit my definition of the word "boy")have a past and a record, haven't they already been given "another chance"? Obviously, the additional "chances" don't seem to be working. Let's not forget the victims here folks. Good job PPD for keeping our streets safe. Unfortunately with the over-crowding of the jails these young criminals do not seem to be learning any lessons from their criminal choices and as a result, they keep repeating their crimes. They will be out all too soon to commit more crimes...I have seen this happen over and over in the last 5+ years with the judges sentencing them to jail time and the jails processing them in and out the same day...frustrating and sad for our community!

The only one of these lil gang bangers who will go to jail at all is Barlow as he is a repeat offender and is on parole for a violent conviction. He will be assigned initially to San Quentin as a level 1 offender unless they deem his offensives to be violent and then will go as a level 2. If Level 2 he will probably be assigned to Folsom to do his time which might be as long as 3 years if he keeps from getting a 115 while in prison.

My belief is the story has been reported prematurely and missing many facts. How I view it, sensationalism at it's finest. In reply to comments I've read, I thought these suspects were suppose to be innocent until proven guilty. A suspect is a suspect. Have we forgotten. We must try and honor the truth and respect the fact the the truth will always prevail. I know for a fact that some of these boy were released yesterday because they were innocent. That is important. Yes, they were there. It is shameful. Did they make a mistake? You bet, Have they disgraced their families? Of course. Public humiliation? Yes. This is the fall out of making wrong choices that ripple through the families and our community. Are we a community though that has lost our belief that you are innocent until proven guilty? If that's the case then we are all guilty. The most important thing is the victims. Let truth and justice prevail and let us not jump to conclusions before the facts.

Julie, Barlow has not been released and he is already a one time loser and has 2 points. There is a reason he was arrested and no doubt is on his way back for at least 3. The others? well justice will prevail but at the very least I hope they learned something out of this and can go a different way. They are quite fortunate that they choose to take on someone who was the right type and not someone who would have pumped a round in each one of them which could easily happen and in the right circumstances would happen.

You people are sad. This is someone's family member. Yes they messed up but again before you judge them maybe you should know all the facts about the case. ALL of these boys have records and just because barlow is on probation does not make him any worse then the rest. All of these boys are probatiion for crimes. maybe you should look at their record and see how andrew barlow is not any worse then the rest. you keep talking about barlow but why dont you talk about some of the other boys who have been in jail on and off for years for crimes that are far worse then andrew's. Just please think before you judge them. they have families that are in pain and seeing people jump to the conclusion they are guilt before they have even been arraigned is ignortant. so much for innocent until proven guilty

Stop - your points are hurting your argument: don't judge - they are all as bad as Barlow - they all are on probation for crimes - the others have been in jail just like Barlow - "they are guilt (sic) before they have even been arraigned is ignortant" (sic). At least you did not close your argument with "they are high school graduates" as "haters" has. On the positive side - nice to see that you are now adding some punctuation and some capilization to your messages.

None are teenagers and they are all adults in the eyes of the court and state. They are no different under the eyes of the law than a 40 year old. While you are all feeling so sorry for the criminals how about a bit of empathy for the victims of the crime. Why don't you let the victim pick out two buddies of his own, tie up the criminals one by one and let them have about 5 minutes with them and then you could say it was even as that is what will eventually happen to them when they go to prison and whether it now with this offense or in the future with something else it will happen. Anybody want to bet drugs were involved?

fairlands9 - We are not sad, you are! Your posts are absolutely ridiculous. Do you really expect sympathy from the community because these idiots already have criminal records!? You make it sound as if we should be compassionate and sympathetic towards them because they have already screwed up once, twice, probably even three times. Give it a rest. This community has no empathy for little jerks like this. I'm sorry for the families, but they need to accept the fact that these kids are not good members of our community and they don't belong here. I hope that they either get jail time or get the hell out of our town. By the way, good luck to them in the future with criminal records at this age!

Again, accusations that are not founded. Why are we so quick to judge others based upon chatter? I know one of these boys, he had never been in jail (until this incident). He was a suspect, released upon arraignment for NO evidence against him, Does that make him guilty?
Does that make him a criminal? He does not have a criminal record today, even after this unfortunate situation. If you are going to make accusations, make sure you have your facts. This is America! Maybe some of these residents making these wild accusations have been appointed to do so by God.

one or more of the 5 must be guilty othewise the two guys beat themselves up and stole their own bike. come on get real. Maybe the one guy you know is innocent this time but guess what? Take a look at the type of people he associates with and bet he will get in trouble again. If these little wanna be gang bangers are so tough why don't they go into Oakland or Richmond or LA and try to find a guy as big or bigger than them and take them on one on one? The reason is that they are a little bunch of cowards that is why.

just because these guys have prior charges they automaticly get accused for this being. Let me ask everyone something, do u know what it feels like to be steriotyped and judged on how you look? just because they might not be your ordenary kid from pleasanton doesnt mean there bad people. I know three of the five suspects and they all have came from great families. one of them has a family him self. I have one thing to say. know your facts and stop judging a books by its cover. I know what it feels like because it happens all the time.

I just learned about "The Rule of Law" If you are in a car are with a group that commited a crime , even though you joined them after. If the police pick you all up together , you are all guilty of the crime, even murder untill you can prove your inocence. So much for incent until proven guilty.
