The Parks and Recreation Commission held a public workshop March 1 to discuss the usage of the proposed 17-acre Staples Ranch Community Park, located near I-580 and El Charro. A San Jose Sharks affiliate proposed to build an 8-acre four-rink ice center, which would also include a sports restraunt and bar, pro shop, seating, and snack area. It's modeled after the affiliate's other facility, Logitech Ice, in San Jose (Web Link). Main access to the proposed ice center would be from El Charro, while a small parking section would be open to the end of Stoneridge Drive.
The community spoke out about what they would like to see at the site. Ideas included were all-weather, lighted fields for soccer, football and lacrosse; lighted tennis courts; open field areas; dog parks for big and small dogs; trail head and connections; and bird-watching areas.
Already scheduled on the property is a senior living facility to the west and an auto mall to the north.
What do you think should go at this site? Do you support the ice rink?
