Donations of graduation gowns?

We have graduation gowns from high school, community & 4-year college. We hate to throw them away. Does anyone know of any know of an organization that recycles them or uses them for other purposes? Thanks!

I'm sure you could donate the high school gowns directly to the high school. They could then offer them to those who may have difficulty paying for one. The same goes for the other ones if you can do it easily - donate it back to the school it came from.

Have you heard about Freecycle? You can freecycle your gowns. Pleasanton freecycle is very active.

The schools probably will not accept the gowns. They do not want to be bothered with a recycling program. I asked a few years back I hope it has changed but I doubt it.

They used to put out a garbage can rather than collect/recycle PE clothes. They also want to sell more PE clothes next year, at a big mark up.

I agree with Tina...list them on Freecycle. Someone will snatch them up!

What about Village High School?

Village High School's graduation gowns are black.

check with some of the local youth ministers...they might have seniors in their youth groups that are in need of a gown. What a nice idea!

I donated my son's graduation gown to Amador right after graduation in June. They were happy to take it. They had a handful already that they save for those who may not be able to afford them next year.
