Summertime hasn't been leisurely as it used to be for the more than 100 eighth-grade graduates who have been sweating out these past 10 weeks in the weight rooms and on the fields at Amador Valley and Foothill high schools as they vie for good positions on the schools' freshmen football teams. My grandson Jordan Nally is one of them and I've seen him sweating and exhausted after mornings of practice in the summer's heat, yet always enthused by the game he's come to enjoy as he heads to his first year as an Amador Don.
