Clearly a beneficial program being sponsored by Mr. McNerney, one that I plan to participate in.

However, let us not forget the damage McNerney does to our country in voting on straight party lines on a daily basis. He repeatedly votes to saddle these same military members and their children with insurmountable debt, and undermines the very Constitution these brave men and women are fighting for!

Please do not be fooled by his occasional showing of caring for others. He aspires to be a career politician and a record of "supporting our troops" is mandatory to becoming one.

Thank you Emily, for your post. Yes, ALL articles by the PW about McNerney paint him in a very favorable light. McNerney is doing something positive for the VETS. Ok, thank you, but who wouldn't? (except others in the Obama Admin)

How about McNerney's voting record that continues to place our national defense in jeopardy? Examples are his votes ...

- to reduce funding for troops in Iraq and Afghan when they needed this funding

- against being energy independent

- for "fairness doctrine" which would eliminate free speech

- for Cap and Trade which will devastate our economy

- for TARP which has had the opposite effect on stimulating the economy

- for nationalized healthcare which is only about increasing power of democrats in congress and the executive branch... and not about "health" or "care"

i am sure there are many other examples where his votes help to place our nation in further jeopardy

My 2/100 - People are interested and engaged. Just because it's not your opinion, doesn't mean it shouldn't be said.

Dale - THANK YOU for being awake and aware! I would be saying the same thing about any other politician who had McNerney's voting record.

McNerny could really help the troops by encouraging his fellow Democrat, our President, to support the troops already in Afghanistan by supplying the resources needed. Sending cards is great, and I certainly encourage everyone to do that; but as far as what McNerny needs to be doing regarding the troops, his efforts are whizzing in the wind.

Get over it....I can't even give you a "nice try" on that one. You've choosen to throw around "the troops" just like McNerney does...when it's convenient. Me, I tend to support them on a daily basis by praying for them, teaching my child about the sacrifices they are making for our freedom, buying them lunch when I am given the opportunity to, and saying thank you to them when I see them.

You see, that's the difference between folks like me who love this country and honor our troops who fight to protect us, and those like McNerney who vote against them whenever he's told to do so. I don't play the "troop" card when it's expedient to do so like he (and you) have. I care for them everyday.

And I really don't think "the troops" care much about whatever you think your point is. They're really much more concerned about protecting your right to express it.

Hey Em, get off your high horse. You took over a perfectly benign and informative thread in order to slam a politician you don't like. You're oversimplifying the issues and accusing people of "playing the troop card," whatever that means. You're not unique in your sentiments toward or treatment of our troops. We are all Americans and we are all grateful for the efforts and dedication of our armed forces. This thread was intended to provide information on an ADDITIONAL way we can show our support and gratitude for our armed forces.

If you really cared about the troops you would want to see them out of harms way. I'm curious to know what rights Iraq was about to take away from us when we attacked them? I keep hearing this line as an explanation of why we're there, but it doesn't make any sense. While our military has fought for us to keep rights in the past, this is not why they're fighting now. It was a war of choice by Bush and he already neglected our active and returning troops during his two terms. Amazing you don't see the disconnect as you criticize McNerney.

I hate to point out the obvious, but you putting your nose into things is what turned the thread into a conversation.

I'm entitled to my opinion, whether you care for or agree with it or not. You exercised your option to comment on my posting, I exercised my option to respond to you. If you were so worried about the integrity of the thread being undermined, you should have discontinued the debate on your end.

That was what I was attempting to do, only you continued to escalate the commentary. The constant negative rhetoric grows tiresome, but becomes even more offensive when it takes over an article on how we can all support our troops.

If McNerney wants to give our local troops a great Christmas present, he could tender his resignation. I can think of no better gift from him.

Our sons and daughters serving in the armed forces deserve the best.
