Season of Sharing

For future reference, before donating to the Season of Sharing charity, if you wish your donation dollars to stay in/help those in Tri Valley area FIND ANOTHER CHARITY.
Season of Sharing donations are sent to and administered by a silicon valley group. Receipents must meet requirements to get any help...must have someone under age of 18 living with you; must be receiving disability/aid; your situation must be sustainable i.e. you can maintain after onetime help. Not everyone that needs help falls in these categories. Now that i know the perimeters and that donations do not stay in our community, I will look for another charity to donated to.

Thank you for sharing. I often wonder these things too and criteria. I think if someone is in need to the point that they humble themselves an ask for help, they should receive it. Yes, there might be people who come forward who in our eyes do not need the help as much as others, but we can't split hairs. We need to help those who request it. We don't need gatekeepers, we need people who are willing to give to others during times of need. Right now, most people fall into that category. What do you think? Hope I'm not being pollyanna here.

I agree with Trish. Also, I think we have enough people in need in our own local community (and the tri valley area), and that is where local donations should stay. The Pleasanton Weekly Season of Sharing Fund should stay local and be managed local. I also feel that not all monies should be earmarked for non-profit organizations. There are many indiviuals/families that may just need one time help because of a fiscal emergency. I always thought that is what the fund was for.

Nancy S., The original post isn't about the Pleasanton Weekly Holiday Fund. All the funds donated to the Holiday Fund stay in the community and the recipients are registered non-profits, not individuals.

I didn't want anyone confusing this "Season of Sharing" with the Pleasanton Weekly Holiday Fund.

This is the most recent story, and it includes the beneficiaries. All donations go directly to the non-profits because the SVCF and the Pleasanton Weekly donate all administrative and promotional costs.

No more charitable donations.

I am no longer willing to have my money go to cushy salaries for people whose definition of charity is helping their own friends.
