As a school crossing guard I see many things. Every year a religious organization arrives at my corner with a box of religious literature. They position themselves around the two schools that I serve, on the public sidewalk or nearby. Their goal is to have the children pass by and they offer them literature. Every year the police is called and they respond because these people are dressed casually and not usual people in the area. The police come but of course as long as they are not breaking the law, they do nothing. The main point here is all about safety, especially after the Newtown shootings. We are all taking precautions to protect our children in and around the schools. I have written this organization asking them to see our viewpoint on this yearly event, to no avail. I feel that it is a parents responsibility to educate their children in a religion of their choice until they reach maturity and that we teach our children to not accept things from strangers.
