"The latest Field Poll, which was released Thursday, shows 48 percent of a sample of likely voters in favor of the measure, 38 percent against and 14 percent undecided."
Hm, "failing" is in the eyes of the beholder. I'd say a more even-handed assessment is that Prop 30 hangs in the balance and has a decent chance of passing. The large percentage of undecided voters on this proposition is unusual this close to the actual election, but if only 20% of the undecided voters cast their ballots for Prop 30, it will pass.
Sorry to burst the fantasy bubble of whoever wrote this biased article, but their reading of the polls (as well as their grasp of basic math) is a bit lacking. But I haven't come to expect much from "journalists" these days, as they all seem to have some agenda and are more like propagandists for one side or the other.
This article also doesn't mention that if Prop 30 doesn't pass, the school year in some districts will have to be shortened by as much as 4 weeks--that's not next year, that's THIS school year. In other words, a decent public education will be finished, kaput, history in the State of California. But...it's a democracy and if that's what the voters choose, then so be it.
This is real. Pleasanton will be forced to take between 8 - 15 furlough days between November and June. GET OUT AND VOTE!!!
Stop spreading lies. Look at the PUSD website. Our budget has been made on the assumption the taxes will fail. If it fails one to four days will be cut from the school year and they have already decided on the days.
If Moonbeam is for it....I will vote against it.
People, read the fine print. There is no guarantee education will get any of it, or roads or anything else. Brown's unions will be there first in line with their bullying demands...starting with prison guards, right down the line. and we've seen, Brown isn't getting much further than Scrwarzenegger did. The bullies seem to win. WE have to send the message, just who makes decides. This band-aid won't correct anything. Corrections, FIXES must happen, and they have not.
There are no protections,. Basically, it goes into the black hole know as the 'GENERAL fund'.
Former CA State Board of Ed Exec Director, Tom Bogetich, says " Vote NO on 30. It doesn't guarantee one penny of new funding for schools - it just gives politicians billions in taxes to spend however they choose."
In other news: the number of registered Democrats is at an all-time HIGH in California while the number of registered Republicans in California has fallen below 30% for the first time in its history.
Next headline in the Pleasanton Weekly: The Republican Party is Dying. After all, if a tax measure with 48% support and 14% undecided is "failing", that headline would only be fair, right?
ACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — California has reached an all-time high of 18.2 million registered voters, while the number of registered Republicans has fallen below 30 percent, signaling a worrisome decline for the state's minority party, officials said Friday.
In its final update before Tuesday's general election, the secretary of state's office said the number of registered voters has increased by 950,000 since the 2008 presidential contest. Officials attribute that surge in part to the state's new online registration system, which helped many young, Democratic-leaning Californians sign up to vote this fall.
That system was seen as a threat to the California Republican Party, which has struggled to retain members, let alone add them. The secretary of state announced that Republicans now make up 29.3 percent of the state's electorate, compared with 31.4 percent in 2008.
This appears to be the lowest ebb for the party since records have been available.

daniel, dems are like cockroaches in this state. They keep breeding and feeding on the crumbs left over from the working poor and they are hard to kill. But, that doesn't mean we'll stop trying....
I'm not addressing anybody until you show me your birth certificates. How do I know you're not all illegal aliens? Or aliens from outer space?
And not that fake birth certificate Obama uses to fool everybody, neither. I want a certified copy presented to me by the doctor who delivered you. And I want to see the doctor's birth certificate, too.
I'll be voting no. School districts will do absolutely anything to protect their staff. I will not be voting to give any school districts any extra money. School districts have an increasingly bad reputation. I'll be voting No on 30, No on 38, Yes on 32 and won't be voting for anyone endorsed by unions.

A recent Senate Bill by Alex Padilla would have made it easier to fire teachers who have been accused of particularly egregious crimes -- such as sex, violence or drug offenses involving children -- by changing current rules that make this very difficult. Joan Buchanan voted against this bill. You see, the teachers' union didn't like the bill. They don't want to protect children. They want to protect teachers who are drug dealers and child molesters.
In this article from the Valley Times today, the Moraga district is blaming a child for being sexually abused by a teacher and saying the child was to blame and was negligent. It's that type of press and media coverage of school districts that generally turns members against school districts in general and giving the school districts any more money.
Brown sued Pleasanton in order to force the city to build low income housing. Yet he is leaving other cities, like Danville and Saratoga, alone.
Well, time to pay back: NO on 30. NO NO NO - get your priorities straight, then we can talk. Until then, NO MORE TAXES to finance your unions, pensions, low income projects.
"Leone, the Lafayette district's attorney, said such a filing is standard legal practice."
If I were the kid's parents, I would add an additional lawsuit: against the district for emotional distress. This is outrageous! Blaming the child and claim it is a "standard legal practice"? Standard where? If I am called to be on that jury, I will award as much money as allowed to the child. The district needs to learn a lesson! Not only did they allow child abuse but now as a "legal strategy" they blame the child, causing further trauma! Unbelievable!
It gets worse. Louis Leone, the one that wrote this garbage, is the attorney for the Pleasanton Unified School District. See what scumbag lawyers PUSD hire? That is why everyone should vote No on 30.
"Louis Leone, the attorney representing the Lafayette School District in that case, claimed "Jane Doe" -- who sued the district, Superintendent Fred Brill, Stanley Principal David Schrag and former teacher Michael Merrick earlier this year -- "was herself careless and negligent in and about the matters alleged in the complaint, and that said carelessness and negligence on (Jane Doe's) part proximately contributed to the happenings of the incident and to the injuries, loss and damages.""
Nope...not me. The legislation must cut spending before I give another penny.
I'm voting No on both.
I gave you money before, and you used it to put a down payment on luxuries you knew you couldn't afford, all the time telling me that the worst would happen if I didn't cough up more.
This is not an education proposal. It's a general fund proposal. And that would be a big NO from me.
3O IS failing, because it should fail. Passing 3O would make CA the HIGHEST SALES and INCOME taxes in the country ! ! ! Besides, this is only a band-aid, they'll be back for more, until permanent STRUCTURAL FIXES are made, and we are STILL WAITING ! !
A big 'NO' on prop 30. It is like filling in a water tank with lots of leaks. Adding more water without plugging the leak is definitely NO NO.
The money is going to be used to back fill the insolvent teachers pension fund and does not guarantee that all the money raised is going to go to school. Cut wasteful spending and renegotiate teachers contract.
I voted already, and voted NO on 30 and so did my formerly undecided spouse (who was called for a survey)
As usual, they are holding education hostage. And threatening to cut, cut, cut unless we give more and more money. THey will cut anyway, until they decide to fix the pension/spending problem.
I hope if fails
If Jerry Brown is so concerned about the cuts to the schools, why doesn't he propose scrapping the bullet train to nowhere and using the money from that?
Just voted no.....Jerry Brown is a Toolbox!
All you Republican sockpuppets who are against a well-educated, intelligent US populace, how's your guy doing in the national race? Just askin'.
That's the same "well-educated, intelligent US populace" sending back our current Congress. The same electorate that voted for the bullet train. The same folks who expect someone else to pay for their entitlement programs, tax breaks, pet projects, personal debts, etc. Congratulations on four more of a deeply divided and partisan country.
I googled & read up on some of Attorney Louis Leones other cases, and I am amazed he still has his BAR license. Though many of his tactics may not be to the letter "illegal" they sure walk that line and are definitely unethical. Kathy Darmaniak from his office is just as bad - apparently that is the culture that his firm breeds & fosters. They are the attorneys that give all of us lawyers a bad name. Take a refresher ethics course Leone!
The problem is stupid, gullible voters...the rest of us get stuck with their choices. Stupid people get to vote too, and as usual, smart voters get screwed.
Smart people knew Pleasanton schools would never see anything from 30...just be the ones paying for it.
Minority schools are the only ones getting any 'education' money
from prop 30.
Shame on yes 30 yes voters. You can pay up, don't even think about coming
back for Pleasanton parcel tax.. That just won't happen,,,,you blew our wad on prop 30.
Don't miss out on the discussion!
