Schools & Kids, posted by Editor, Pleasanton Weekly Online, on Jun 15, 2012 at 11:32 am

The Pleasanton school district is looking back to move ahead, re-instituting a policy of staggered starting times that it had in place 16 years ago. Meanwhile, parents are upset with what they say was little warning about the change in the schedule for kids in first through third grades next year.

According to other school districts. The Ed Code states if a School in the past has implemented a staggered school day then reverted back to non staggered they may not reinstitute the staggered system. Has anyone looked at this? During a casual conversation with another Superintendent this opinion came to light.

In this article you say the board has discussed a shorter school day for weeks. Can you point me to the minutes of the discussions? I'd like to see the comments of our representatives. Thanks.

See the PUSD main page (Web Link) for more information.

The board discussed staggered schedules in at least two meetings, on May 22 and June 5. You can find the discussion by looking at the district's archived videos on the PUSD site.

Did you see these discussions? Approx where in the videos are they? I don't see any discussion of the impact of shorter days in the written notes. Thanks.

Reducing school time by 100 hours per year & claiming that we are barely above absolute mandated state minimum, is "enlightened" progress. Congratulations PUSD board for your high standards.
