It wasn't through hard work that the Obama 2012 campaign and the DCCC were able to react to this interview in less than 8 hours, and send out fundraising emails? I am shocked.

Do you think, maybe the campaign has already polled and focus grouped this issue, given Obama's statement "I had already made a decision that we were going to probably take this position before the election and before the convention"
The amazing thing is all the news coverage of an event that was not just a flip-flop (as Mr Romney's detractors are fond of accusing him of), Mr Obama owns a pair of flip-flops on this issue.
In 1996, he told a Chicago newspaper, "I favor legalizing same-sex marriages, and would fight efforts to prohibit such marriages."
He has since taken a position of undecided, in favor of civil unions but not gay marriage, and now back to favoring legalizing same-sex marriages.
But President Obama can count on his willing accomplices in the media to not call him out when the etch-a-sketch is flipped over. His position can be referred to as "evolving" or "nuanced".
The reality is that the President hasn't taken any stance at all. He stated that he personally favors it, but said that gay marriage is an issue for states to decide. Currently, there isn't any federal action in the works to make gay marriage legal.
As a columnist said today, If you believe this 'Saul on the road to Damascus story,' then you are a less skeptical person than I am. Obama is a principled man, but he is also a calculating and opportunistic politician, as evidenced, most recently, by his eagerness to exploit the anniversary of Osama bin Laden’s killing. In 2008, when he said marriage should be restricted to a man and woman, the moral arguments were just as clear as they are now. Obama, like Bill Clinton and other Democrats before him, took what was perceived to be the politically safe route ... Obama’s stance in 2008 was a product of careful cost-benefit analysis, and so, I would wager, was his reversal yesterday. This was primarily about internal Democratic politics.
