Hi Tango, word has it that New Leaf is coming to Vintage Hills Shopping Center. We dropped in at the New Leaf market in Santa Cruz last week and the manager said that they are targeting late Fall for an opening. Fingers crossed!

New Leaf highlights natural and local food products. Much better for our community and our economy, in the long run... a far healthier choice for shopping than WalMart, but not the place to go if low prices are your only priority in life...

No, New Leaf got out bid by 99cent. Or at least that's what I heard from a 99cent worker just yesterday. My cousin Vinny tells me the same thing.

I called New Leaf this morning and they are still set to open. I go to the new Leaf and grocery shop every time I go to Santa Cruz just before driving home. It is a wonderful store and with a gluten free family just what we need here!

It is sad that a store that is practical and affordable will not occupy the Vintage Hill area.

A store such as Grocery Outlet would be a ideal fit, but I guess it is not upscale enough for our City Council.. Grocery Outlet would fit the demographics and would be a long time fixture for the neighborhood. New Leaf will not last long in that location, it is way too pricey to draw the needed customers to be successfull. It would truly be nice for the adjacent neighborhood residents to have a choice of whom they would like to spend their money with.

I wish we had another Walmart going in. Their half gallon jars of pickled eggs are the cheapest in the city.

It would be much more efficient to have one $2.97 store go in. But somewhere else please, not Vintage Hills shopping center as we WANT the New Leaf to go in there.

I'm glad New Leaf is going in at that spot. It's a shame that it's been vacant so long. I love the New Leaf in Santa Cruz. It may not have the cheapest prices, but it is a great store and the residents will benefit from it locating there.

Grocery Outlet is a good store too, but there is already one in Livermore (not too far from this location) and a new one in Dublin. I don't think it would make sense for one to go there. I think New Leaf is a good choice and I bet the residents will love it.

I am looking forward to a wholesome store in our neighborhood. I don't mind higher food prices when it comes to health. We don't spend $$ on concerts, sporting event tickets, high cost vacations or much else. However, we find a direct correlation between better health and unadulterated, pure, fresh, organic, local foods and wholesome foods. We are looking forward to a New Leaf store! I often do my shopping in Mountain View's Wholefoods before coming home from work! We receive produce delivery from outside this area. I would like to support local stores, but, they need to carry better quality foods if they want my money. Currently, stores have small selections of organic foods. I'd like a store more focused in this area. By the way, if you are for truth in labeling for GMO foods you can sign a petition to put it on the ballot. Currently, most Canola, Soy, some Alfalfa & Sugar Beets and, certainly most Corn are genetically modified. Many European nations will not accept USA's GMO products. Some in Germany claim coated corn destroyed Honey Bee Hives and others claim GMO corn often contains Herbicide within its genetic make-up. I just want to KNOW what is in the food I choose to consume and am looking forward to a grocery store focused on these issues. I hope New Leaf is a honorable story worthy of operating in Pleasanton:A Community of Character-thanks for offering g a venue for free-speech Weekly! I'm really looking forward to the new Walmart going in. I personally don't need all the organic stuff because, like global warming, its all a hokes. When choosing where to shop, I ask wheres the cheapest hot dogs, balony, chips and big jars of mayonayes. Sometimes our Wallys offers vitimin refreshed white bread 3 for 2 dollars. Late at night sometimes I go to Wallys just to watch the old people they have there stock shelfs. It makes me greatful for what I have.

All of a sudden I am hearing about a 99 cent store. Are we not going to have a say in what store goes in Vintage Hills ? One 99 cent store in Livermore and one in Dublin Should be enough. I do believe that we should have a grocery store not a trinket store. We have enough places to buy trinkets already. Fight for New Leaf. Give it a chance. We all may be surprised how well they do compared to Traders Joe's when Trader Joe's has competition and better Parking.

99cent stores don't only sell trinkets. It's sodas and chips are really cheap, and I dare you to find cheaper mayonaze any where. I've about had it with all you illitists who want to shove global warming and organic foods down my throwt.

It looks like there is a 99¢ store going in next to Gold Chopsticks, where the fitness center used to be. This is in Meadow Plaza, @ the far end of the shopping center where the Walmart Marketplace plans to go in, on Santa Rita.

Why are we always portrayed as elitist when we ask for a nice market that carries good products? If we are willing to pay for those products than maybe we're being a little dumb. I shop at 99 cent stores a lot but I don't do my every week grocery shopping there. Vintage Hills just is not the place for a 99 cent store. I have never looked, do the food products sold at 99 cent store have current sold by dates, or are their product over the limit? Yes, I realize sold by dates are only a guide line. Still the fresher the better.

It isn't just the elitism. Stores like Trader's and New Leafs don't carry the kinds of things us treaditional Pleasantonians like to buy. Pigs feet, pickled eggs, cheap weeners, and especially rabbit. Trader's once had four packages of rabbit, and we bought all four. But they had already cut off the paws so Jim didn't have the paws to cut off and give to the grandkids. We complained but Trader's never stocked rabbit again. Only exotic things like french mustards and jams. How about some plain old mayonaisse?

There will be two Walmart Stores, there are plenty of Safeways, a Lucky store, the Dollar Tree and Grocery Outlet are a short stint down Stanely for our area of Pleasanton (Trader Joes two, 1 in Pleasanton/1 in Livermore), and Gene's Fine foods is nice, but, pricey and they carry interesting foreign imports, yet, not much in the organic categories. One of you said he/she is tired of having organic foods shoved down their throats. I believe the opposite is true. For a very long time now those who have wanted to eat wholesome or organic foods have had to piece it all together: if here on a Saturday-visit the Farmer's Market, at home delivery from Farm Fresh to You, a longer trevor over to Wholefoods in San Ramon (by the way-I far from believe Wholefoods is a perfect store! Their ready made food is not necessarily any better than any other store and very over priced) or pick-up foods in the Mountain View area flowi g my part time job during the week. If anything, unwholesome and cheap foods surround us a d are easy to find in the many stores around this area. For those of us seeking what we believe to be a healthier choice is very difficult task. I can find junk food everywhere and, yes, I do shop at the grocery outlet. I read labels & am very careful. I don't like taking medication and want to remain as healthy as possible through eating the best foods possible. It's a lifestyle choice. I don't have a lot of money, yet, I feel it is money well spent to focus on healthy eating and living. Sure! Who does not love to eat soft white bread? I see nothing wrong with good Mayo! The. Utritionalist I work for believes Good Fats do not make people over weight. She believes Carbs and sugars do. I just want to find mayo that is Organically made with olive oil (Trader Joes has a soybean oil version-yet most Soy Bean is GMO). I think Pleasanton is ready to accommodate its citizens who have been shopping outside the city limits for what they consider to be better quality foods. Add another Walmart-why not? If the market will bear it and the people want it then I am all for accommodating our local residents. Therefore, remember some of the other residents here-those desiring New Leaf or a better food store focused on the kinds of foods we desire too. This market place has been empty for years-it needs a unique store. If I'm willing to do my shopping outside the area-how many others are like me? I'm certain they've done their research. SO: this is one resident very happy to see New Leaf come into that center! :)
