And we don't even eat smelt! Only domestic livestock should be saved (until we eat them). All other wildlife should be left to fend for themselves. No more free wildlife handouts in the form of protectionism. I survived on my own. If smelt can't survive on their own then they deserve to go. Who needs them?

Of course it makes perfect sense that the democrats are out to destroy America. There is a secret planet that the dems are all going to live on after they destroy the U.S.Pelosi and Obama have already built a secret ship that will take them all there after they destroy America. The problem is it seems to be taking too long because the country, somehow has managed to survive the attacks. When Obama took over and launched his sinister plan in 2008 the U.S. economy was the greatest in its history, millions of jobs were being created every month,American automakers were the envy of the world, there was peace on earth with no wars,Europe had no financial problems, health care costs had not gone up in 8 years and there were no illegal immigrants. The second Obama swore in it all changed instantly.Suddenly out of nowhere there was a global financial collapse caused by wall st,2 wars started, the automakers collapsed, healthcare premiums quadrupled for no reason.Twelve million illegals were let in in the dark of night and the big corps took millions of American jobs overseas. The Dems were masterful. There seems to be no stopping their onslaught on America.I pray the wise and brave Republicans can somehow save us all.

You are on the right track. Obama and the socialist nut jobs (today's Democrat Party) want to bring down our capitalistic society so they can replace it with a socialistic state where the 99% (peons) are ruled by the 1% (progressive elites).
Think Barack Obama.
Think Queen Pelosi.
Think Chuck Schumer.
Think Debbie Wasserman-Schultz.
Think George Soros.
Think Warren Buffett.
Think George Kaiser.
Think Louis Farakhan.
Think the mass media.
Think Hollywood Scum.
Think these are the despots that are stealing your freedom.
Think "we are hosed if we don't put a stop to it".

The poor farms in the Central Valley. How many people have the Dems put out of business so the smelt can live. I hope people will look at what the Dems have done and are doing to our state. Give everything away to the illegals while our children have to struggle along just for a few votes. Please go out and vote against them although they have the election regrid in their favor. We could out vote them if we just show up.

There's only so much water to go around. If anyone would suggest that we in the suburbs stop having water wasting lawns, flush our toilets and wash our cars less often, take shorter showers, use flow-restricting faucets, and in general conserve water, then surely there would be yet another uproar about our freedoms and the intrusion of government into our lives. There are limited resources and we have to select our priorities. If you'd rather have a nice lush green lawn in the middle of a dry summer, then you're making a choice that that is more valuable to you than an entire animals species. People first, no matter what, right?

John, you are correct. If you refute that point, will you be the first to sacrifice yourself for the excuse (smelt) being used to put an end to 'big agriculture'? Water is a comodity and as such should be billed appropriately based on use.
In your vilification of the lifestyles that really seem to grate against most govt loving liberals you fail to mention the primary cause of the increasing consumption of our state's water: it's the increase in population since the infrastructure was designed.
If we build more high density housing in this area, what do think will have the greatest impact on our water supply: the increased population or the current residents rate of toilet flushing?
If you espouse govt instrusion, petition your masters to limit the area's population.

I'm not as worried as stevepee about the population growth. Because Californians are exiting in droves because of our govt loving Marxist politicians intruding upon our freedoms to water our lawn as much as we desire. I pay for the comoditty, darn it, and I earned it. I do agree that we shouldn't be allowing low income riff-raff into the area, because then I wouldn't have anyone to feel superior to what with riff-raff trash suddenly living all around me. Now, I admit to being riff-raff too, but at least I live in Pleasanton and can feel superior to the riff-raff in Oakland.
Important logical point here: Since no one eats smelt, they're not a comoditty, like water is. Water has higher monetary value than smelt. Therefore, we should let the smelt die. Salmon sometimes eat them, but salmon are collectivist communists and can't afford to purchase comoditties like smelt. Therefore, salmon's needs are not valid. Only the wildlife we purchase in stores is worth saving, because the other wildlife doesn't have monetary value.
The myths of population explosion alarmists, environmentalist creeps, and Marxist global warning whiners all need to be debunked with sound reasoning. Thanks to steve for straightening matters out.
