Brown signs bill for illegals to get financial aid State, National, International, posted by Pay for an illegal to go to college, a resident of the Another Pleasanton neighborhood neighborhood, on Oct 8, 2011 at 12:22 pm
Jerry Brown signed AB131 (ironically on a SATURDAY morning). This is the bill that allows illegal immigrants to apply for financial aid for college.
There's only so much of this taxpayer money to go around so, using deductive reasoning, we can assume that if money is going to illegals, less money will go to the college students who are citizens.
Can I just not pay that portion of my tax bill and put it toward my own kid's college tuition?

This has been going on for a long time, anyways. In the 80's my college roommate had no green card and got through college on grants (funny how she had enough $$ for a car, TV and VCR - a luxury in the 80's - etc...). I was too busy working to pay my way through to watch TV in the evenings. That experience turned me into a conservative.
Oh yeah - then the green card came through jr. year and she "celebrated" by taking a Caribbean cruise over spring break. Still never paid a dime of tuition. *That* mentality is what is wrong with this country, IMO...

More pandering to the lowest common denominator in order to garner votes. Why help legal citizens of our state when we can reward lawbreakers and their offspring? These types of stories make you wonder what the hell people are thinking in this state....you voted for this crap, now you get to pay for it. [Portion removed due to disrespectful comment or offensive language] Unbelievable.

Penny, don't you grasp the concept of picking a nominee ? The independents from Maine to California, are not going to allow Santorum to be President. It's not a popularity contest. It's about who can get the most votes against a sitting INCUMBENT....that means getting the most votes coast to coast. It's a numbers game and the 20% in the middle will decide the winner. First, the repubs must pick the most electable...the one that can beat Obama. You nominate a national loser, and the whole party loses... to the incumbent
machine, Obama stays.
The judgemental evangelicals will likely bring the party down....heavy price for all to pay. Bigots won't win. Perry is fading fast.

Well, illegals have taught is something....protest, even if you wave flags from other countries, while begging, it seems to work ! ! This bill is not about education...That's what SB 185 was about.. sharing the shortage of our college 'seats' with illegals. Alameda Co born white males forfeiting seats to illegals, which Cal has been doing right along anyway...diversity is their stated goal.
This bill he signed is about Ca taxpayers using OUR scant dollars to 'FUND' the illegals' education, after they have taken the seats from our kids.
Of course our kid's families might have homes that are underwater, so they cannot get personal loans...even if they got seats anyway. The system is now stacked AGAINST our kids...time to get serious !
I say we need to tell our white boys, take what they've taught us, and take it to thre street....since it works ! ! ! ! ! Stop the discrimination against our kids ! RECALL jerry Brown ! ! !

If someone's kids aren't good enough to get into a UC they don't belong there. If they are good enough, and their parents are hurting economically, the state will help. If someone claims otherwise, they are simply exposing their own ignorance as to how the UC system works.
When people start talking about "our kids" and "our white boys," they're harkening back to the heyday of the Klan. The Klan, always intimidated by the educated, would frequently appeal to "common sense" as well. Hey Pleasanton, say hello to Oxford, Mississippi.

I think the true message is that we should all head north to Canada and become illegal aliens there. Oh wait, I think they passed a law stating the illegal immigrants can't receive healthcare. That's ok, the US will provide it.
The process is screwed up. It should be easier and cheaper for immigrants to become legal citizens. But we shouldn't be providing financial benefits to those who choose to be illegal residents.
Yes, almost everyone in this country is of immigrant heritage, but most entered this country through legal processes, adopting this country and language as their own and become American.

I'm sure they'd choose to be legal were they to have their druthers. I personally am a supporter of the 14th Amendment. Denying immigrants on American soil police protection, emergency services, fire protection, and assistance in education where they show intellectual promise is simply unAmerican.

from the website - The state has told students that it does not have adequate funds to pay for enough classes so they can graduate in four years. Now, California is even actively recruiting out-of-state students to help fill the education budget gap. Still, the Legislature purports to have miraculously found $40 million to fund the dreams of these illegal students, on top of offering them in-state tuition rates.
This bill institutes an expansion of funding for one category of students while requiring others to pay more on their behalf. This is unfair, fiscally irresponsible and bound to encourage more illegal immigration, which already costs between $11 billion and $22 billion across the country annually. I believe we need more legal immigration. This law, however, entices more people to come here in the most dangerous way possible.
By creating a new entitlement for those who are in the country illegally, we are engraving an invitation to those who have not yet come — what are you waiting for? Not only do we offer a K-12 education, a myriad of welfare programs and in-state tuition, but now we will tax the citizens of California to provide additional financial aid for your child’s college education.

Some seem to think that California is bent on denying admission to all but illegal aliens and is planning to give these individuals a cost-free education.
Academically qualified individuals who have attended high school for 3 or more years will be charged in-state tuition and will be eligible to apply for student aid.
The residency requirement for in-state tuition from the 1950s, by the way, has been 1 year when the parent is also resident in the state and 2 years before the age of 18 for minors living with a guardian.
Not the end of the world, here, boys. California has been cutting people slack for decades.

Knee-jerk blowhards want to deny that minorities are favored in the state of CA (not other states), and in 2011 (not in earlier years). Time to acknowledge what is happening on our Ca public colleges...today.
I just want to know what happened to the 'sponsors' for 5 years, and not a penny from taxpayers for 5 years??????? Nobody enforces that,k but it's still law. Today we pay to deliver the baby, pay for campus child care while mommy attends classes.
And as if the pope hasn't made young mexican so poor, they have to leave Mexico and come here, this week he announced he wants to PAY people to birth more children !!! Of course it's U S taxpayers who pick up the tab ....pope never picks up the tab. 'please HELP US !
