Pleasanton Weekly mentioned on Hannity national news program

Original post made by Question on Sep 28, 2011

On the Fox Hannity national news program this evening, Pleasanton Weekly was brought up as an example of the White House's strong-arm news filtering tactics.

Does anyone know what this is regarding? Are there particular stories that Pleasanton Weekly has been pressured to supsress? Maybe Solyndra? Just curious.

The Weekly ran a story about Marine One awhile back ago. The WH asked them to edit it.

This, I can only guess, is what Hannity was referring to:

"A reporter from the Pleasanton Weekly, which only has a circulation of 18,000, claims she received a call from a White House official asking her to remove a line that suggested Mrs Obama was snobbish."

Here's that link again, since Sopebox truncated it: www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1383504/White-House-demanded-California-newspaper-remove-Michelle-Obama-remark.html

It appears that the whole thing was a fake. Someone called claiming to be from the White House. No one at Pleasanton Weekly confirmed that.

That is a quantum leap to make in judgment. When you look at the totality of the circumstances, common sense dictates that someone from the White House did indeed make the call. Just as the stories came out after the Clinton's left office, the stories will also come out about the Obama's once they are out of office. The stories are already leaking as to how arrogant and snobbish they are. They feel that they are like royalty and should be treated as such. Note that there have never been stories like this about the Bush's, as that president and First Lady had CLASS and respect for the office, unlike the idiot who is in there now. Yes, I am biased. I can't wait to see Obama sent packing so that we can start to get our country back.

To me common sense dictates that someone from the White House would say "where is Pleasanton California and what is Pleasanton Weekly"? Sounds like a local prank.

Plausible deniability. The WH threatened that Chronicle reporter in the same week. Or was that faked too?

"Or was that faked too?"

Who knows? Probably. If I worked for a newspaper and got such a call, the first thing I would do is fact check it. That's the kind of thing newspapers do. I would call the White House and confirm it.

No need to cover for this administration, John. It's the Chicago way, to intimidate and coerce anyone who doesn't toe the line. How would they know how to behave any differently? Rahm-bo, ex-mayor Daley, etc. all operate under the same tactics. Obama came from that culture (of corruption) and no matter which address he lives in now, he can't change who he is.

Yes, the Chronicle initially, even reported about their reporter at the very, very high $$ event, i.e. $25,000 couple range. There was some sort of disturbance and Carla Marinucci, a long-time, top, lead Chron reporter, used her camera phone....,like most people in the room. She was removed and chastised, supposedly not to report on Obama again, but she's tops and the paper shortly had her reporting at the paper again.

I don't usually watch fox, so don't know the context or coverage of the topic. However, I've noticed a number of questionable
"terminations'.
MSNBC's Cenk Ugyur, filled the Olberman, then Ed Schultz time slot. Cenk was a Left-of-center progressive, who freely challenged
all politicians, all sides, including Obama. He cut it a bit close several times. He was pulled aside and told, he was part of the 'insiders club' and the 'power in DC" didn't like his "tone". Apparently that was a warning, because he was shortly pulled in again and lost that show. He says he was to be stuck in the corner with a smaller, lesser position, but would be PAID DOUBLE what he'd been making. (so much he wouldn't go anyplace else)... But he left anyway. He says he's a truth teller, and will always challenge power on either side.
Most recently long time, left of center, Juan Willians was fired from PBS for making a "MUSLIM" comment, which made the news on all networks.
Mark Halprin, a low key, quality MSNBC reporter made a 'slang' comment on a childish comment Obama had made the day before....on
Morning Joe in dark, early morning hours...MSNBC, the quickest to pull, yanked him. But Marks long time 'measured" commenting, with likely protests from others, after a weeks absence, was circulating again.
A few months into the Obama Adminsitration John Stossel was fired from ABC's long time 'give me a break" part of 20/20,where he had no qualms about telling truth on government. About then, Lou Dobbs was terminated from CNN. Usually power calls are heeded,...sometimes they're not. Exit stories are created. Very, very scary. Not so transparent ! ! Just way too many yanked, too fast. Tom Jefferson
'freedom of speech' should be honored.

I thought this was a joke posting at first, but it seems some people take this stuff seriously. All anybody had to do was call the White House and ask. If the White House confirms, report that. If they deny, stick with the original reporting.

I know you can't be serious, John, but I'll humor you. Do you really think calling the white house will get you a straight answer, let alone someone to take your call? You can't really be that naive, can you? Or are you that much in the tank for Obama?

Thank you Steve. I couldn't have controlled my rage to reply to such nonsense. It explains how our country gets so messed up.... gullible and ignornant voters !!
If John would read multiple papers and rotate the channels and hosts frequently, he would see and hear for himself what and when these things happen. There would be no need to call the White House to get message from a puppet-speaker.
However, be careful about writing the White House. I emailed the President in the first month with a polite suggestion about an item for the Health Care bill.....within 24 hrs. I received a 'Welcome" email from MOVE-ON.org ! ! I assure you I would NEVER get an email from move-on, cato maybe, but not move-on. Scary, direct line from the white house, but NO wh reply to my suggestion. This time they are very open about having a full 'social media staff' IN the room next to Obama...oh John, I SAW that with their own panning cameras on TV. You notice, he doesn't need to come out and mingle with folks around here. Atherton, SanFrancisco, Hollywood, Detroit and Oakland...that's all that's needed. Oh, FACEBOOK and LINKEDIN, which is what Michelle was getting started in Oakland, and WH social media team...covers all the bases.

" Do you really think calling the white house will get you a straight answer, let alone someone to take your call?"

Who cares if you get a straight answer? If they don't take the call, go ahead with the story. If they do reply, report on that. In either case report all the facts. Why not?
