Union nurses strike today is unjustified Comments on Stories, posted by Both Sad and Angry, a resident of the Another Pleasanton neighborhood neighborhood, on Sep 22, 2011 at 4:37 pm
Pleasanton Weekly article regarding nurses strike is mixed with half dozen topics. I am focusing on the strike against 34 Ca hospitals ! !
A full page Sutterd hospital article in today's CoCo/Valley Times is full of facts, that illustrates just how far out-of-touch unions are with life on the outside in 2011.
A few of the 34 are Sutter, Alta Bates, Eden, Kaiser, Children's hospital.
This union has called more than 100 Ca strikes in just the last 3 years alone ! !
Full-time nurses at Children's and Sutter average earnings in excess of $135,000 per year. (in THIS economy ?)
Most RNs receive at least one option for 100% employer-paid health insurance for their dependents ! ! (super-duper)
The unreasonable union demands unnecessarily increase costs for others.
The deadly sting of these unions are killing every faction of our society. Sad that nurses would allow their leaders to push the greed.

Hey - at least this is consistent with our national character - get in while the gettin's good - take what you can get for yourself before the ship goes down.

Funny how you first say both ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS and veterans DESERVE healthcare and then come back with your line above.
Of course veterans deserve top health care, but this has nothing to do with providing the same benefit to illegal immigrants and abosulutely nothing to do with greedy nurses being whipped up by national union leaders.
You socialists are all the same - no ability to see facts as they are and the cause/effect relationship of your bankrupt ideas.
Enjoy your happy talk and wishful thinking of spending other peoples' money.

Logical reasoning is lacking...ILLEGALS deserve FREE health care ? ? ? Really? Just open our doors at every airport, and say Welcome, let me get a wheelchair for you, so you won't drop your baby on the tarmack.
BTW my ancestors on both sides were here in early 1800s...and you ? ? ? And mine eagerly learned English immediately because they WANTED to BE all-American in their GUTS ! ! They WANTED to assimilate...it was shameful to speak their old country's language, and their eyes filled with tears at the site of the American flag. They had personal PRIDE. Unlike the ungrateful ingrates of today, who have the gall and greed to protest for MORE freebies !..before they're american. My ancestors in the 1800s weren't here for freebies! Freebies never appeared until the last century, in the MID 1900s....a concoction created by political whores, handing out goodies in exchange for votes. Tragically for our country, the practice continues.

Cholo--really? You can't be serious. What does it matter where the poster was born?
As for you: "Are you a veteran? Did you serve in Vietnam? I did." Thanks for your service.
"Do you strongly believe with your eyes full of tears that I don't deserve medical benefits because I am an immigrant US veteran?" You conveniently left out the most important part of the sentence---"ILLEGAL" immigrant. You deserve your continued medical care because you presumably are a legal citizen of the U.S.
Again, no one said you didn't deserve the benefits you earned. But illegals do not. Facts are important things and leaving them out distorts the conversation to the point where you lose any credibilty you may have previously had.

If a non-US citizen serves in the US military, do you believe that they deserve medical benefits and US citizenship for having served in the US military? Or, after having served in the US military, should they be deported?
Some Republicans are trying to deprive US veterans of benefita...how come?
What are your beliefs re: all 18 yrs. olds in the USA who are legal citizens serving in the US military...male & female, all races/ethnic groups. No exceptions for healthy functioning 18yr. olds.
That way, everybody serves and nobody sneaks out of harms way.

I wouldn't be suprised to hear that Cholo is a nurse out at the Veterans hospital in Livermore - given how he/she has co-opted a blog on tone-deaf union actions to talk about health benefits for veterans (a good thing) and illegal aliens (a bad thing).
It is amazing that with all our government spending and in particular military spending, we can't determine whether/not someone is a citizen before we enlist them.

Cholo, Veterans and illegals are NOT 'interchangable' terms in this conversation. VETERANS are ENTITLED to medical and other benefits, both legal and illegal. Non-Veteran Illegals are NOT entitled to ANYTHING free, nothing. White males in my family can't get financial aid, so illegals sure as hell are NOT ENTITLED !
Our borders are our boundaries. We cannot have everybody in the world show up for freebies.
Obviously, our 'citizenship' test is a scam and a farce...SUPPOSEDLY, English is required to pass the test, IF that were the case, there would be zero reason to print election ballots in anything other than ENGLISH ! So anybody voting without English should be challenged as to the validity of their citizenship...our elections are a farse !

good morning eyes filled with tears...what do you mean by "we" in the 2nd paragraph?
you don't have much choice with regard to who gets "freebies"...millions of people living within "our boundaries" get "freebies" everyday because alleged citizens like yourself limit your political activity to online blogs...
thousands of illegal immigrants who attend American universities are granted financial assistance...some pay it back and others don't...if you have a problem with that, get politically organized and complain about it to your elected representatives...if you refuse to become politically involved, then don't whine to me about your imaginary hurts and sadness...give it a rest...
i speak English...as a teen, I lived in London so I'm conversant in the language...i know many immigrants who also speak English fluently...we don't need a ballot in another language...however, some US citizens do need the translation...if you don't approve, then organize politically to put an end to it...don't forget, this is the USA!!!
incidentally, what are your thoughts about nursing? In my opinion, RN's deserve every penny that they earn...and respect!

No they don't. They deserve to be fairly compensated for the value they create - nothing more or nothing less.
Unfortunately, given they are in a union they will extract more money than they deserve until they put their employers out of business - just like what has happened with any union dominated company.
They only unions that are surviving these days are government employee unions. Given how messed up our political system is, public employee unions continue to rape taxpayers.

You don't understand We? I'll clarify. We American taxpayers cannot have the WORLD show up in our all too many open 'freebie' lines provided by taxpayers. Look at Oakland's general hospital, we have more than enough of our own freeloaders. If you want or need group-think over individual responsibility, there are other choices in the world.
Why would you bring Bachman into this thread? She certainly doesn't speak for me or most Republicans, and won't and shouldn't be President. And, FYI,I am more politically active than many among us. We all use to be equally responsible for ourselves. Today most new laws are about taking something FROM one group, to give to another group, again and again, until it's all out of whack. Some euphemistically call it redistribution, others call it theft.
You started with striking nurses should 'go for it' (more). You ended with 'they deserve every penny they (already) earn". I can safely say many, if not most, of us deserve every penny we earn, and more....but we don't throw a tantrum over logically and rationally settle for less.
