School starts Tuesday -- watch out for kids
Schools & Kids, posted by Editor, Pleasanton Weekly Online, on Aug 19, 2011 at 8:18 am

The district has some pointers for students and parents, old and new, as schools starts this Tuesday, Aug. 23. Leave home early and be cautious of students walking and riding bikes. Plus be aware of new laws regarding pertussis immunization.

To the parents of kids starting school on Tuesday. If you MUST drive your children to school - instead of stopping in the middle of the street (and making illegal u-turns in the middles of the street) to unload your child....if you are unsure of where you can park or stop, or how to get back out on the road - - - take a practice run over the weekend and figure it out. Be considerate of the neighborhoods, the people who live there and people who need to get to work as well.

If you are dropping off your child for school at Amador - do not use our driveways as your 'turn around'. The Jensen Tract area is set up in straight blocks - just go Around The Block!!! You won't get lost - I promise!!

A word of caution: I read in the Weekly that one Walnut Grove PTA mover and shaker likes to go to the Sunshine Saloon for mimosas with her friends on the first day of school. It's my hope that they have designated drivers for pick-up. If not, I would encourage them to stay off the streets! On a school morning one is one too many!

About those updates in vaccinations--I think no none should be allowed to attend public schools without having them before school starts! This protects all the students and staff, as well as families. Look at what has happened in other states when this did not happen: there was a huge problem with pertussis. A totally preventable problem that has resurged because of families not getting their shots!

This plays heck with everyone when a population is not protected!

I am back working as a crossing guard for the 5th year at Valley Ave. and Northway Rd. This intersection is very dangerous for several reasons. Please SLOW DOWN & drive with caution. Please do not go through the intersection if a crossing guard is in the process of crossing people from one side to the middle. Children have been known to change their mind and run back to where they came from, especially if they see their friends coming. Looking forward to a safe school year and I am there from 7:45AM-8:45AM and one hour later on Wednesdays.

Just because your a mom you can't go to a bar to have breakfast? Who says they don't have a designated driver?. What does being in the PTA matter? Negative assumptions are what create discord in a community. Instead of making snide comments you should join those ladies and partake in some great conversation. I know that most of the moms at that gathering have probably done more for the schools and this community than you can imagine. I also know that endangering there fellow citizens is not on their agenda. There is always some stick in the mud everywhere you turn.

Hey Jake! Have you heard the phrase, "perception is reality?".

Maybe these fine PTA gals that do so much for their school can go

to Amador and conduct a lesson on why it's ok for Moms to

go to bars in the morning. Designated driver? I don't buy it! There are girls coming to the middle school with vodka in their water bottles. I wonder where they learned that? Maybe they'll grow up and be the popular moms that think it's ok to go to bars after drop off!
