Young Giant
Sports, posted by Editor, Pleasanton Weekly Online, on Aug 6, 2011 at 9:50 pm

It's a movie moment: A young unknown gets called up to the major league and, in front of thousands of people, hits a grand slam and wins the game. Except in this case, it's real life. That young unknown was Brandon Crawford, who graduated from Foothill High School in 2005 and went on to play at UCLA before getting drafted in 2008. Crawford described himself as "nervous, but kind of an excited nervous," walking to the plate in Milwaukee, where he hit the game-winning homer.

Good for Brandon , but pretty poor written article -

*He was sent to the minors on Sunday, July 31. I would think that's plenty of time to update for Friday's publish.

*The home run did not make his average "literally batting 1000". It was his third at bat of the game and made his average .333. "1000" is actually written "1.000" by the way.

*The home run made him have four RBIs not three RBIs. Crawford scoring himself counts as the fourth RBI.

*Saying "watching former Giants like fellow shortstop Royce Clayton, Alex Rodriguez, "before he went to the Yankees," and J.T. Snow" is incorrect. Rodriguez was never on the Giants and Snow played first base.

Actually the wording on Snow is right.

It seems there were some piddley mistakes throughout the entire article.

Pro-Law offers up a mere one-sentence critique, and can't get the grammar right. "pretty poor written article"

What's that old adage? People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones?

i had the great honor to coach brandon at foothill high. his talents speak for themselves but his character is ever lasting. we worked hard and he soaked it all up. having a short stop with that type of ability was an experience. the magic in high school baseball is that you practice during your season four days a week and play games the other two. players have a chance to develop right in front of your eyes. brandons junior year at foothill he played with brad bergesen who pitches for baltimore. since 2000 amador and foothill have had numerous scholarship ball players leave our campus.

at our last baseball camp brandon donated two bats and numerous balls that he signed for the little ball players of pleasanton. my family and the whole community at foothill watched those giants games like brandon was playing short stop at falcon diamond. when he was in the big leagues it was un believable.

i have a few good stories about brandon that i will share down the road. we wish him a long and healthy career.
