Post a New Topic

Personally I prefer to be called a badger, a watchdog, or a past superintendent used to call me "the tenacious one".
I have been consistent in my community advocacy for 15 years and my motives are sincere.
There is no doubt I have annoyed many people.
You can call me what ever you like but...fair is fair, use your name.
What has this forum turned into? Is everybody fair game? Could we start a forum called "Is Jeb a jerk?", "My next door neighbor Bob Jones wears panties", "Hosterman is a witch", etc. I guess we can go through the phone book and list peoples names and ask if that person is annoying.
yea, can jeb remove this?
I agree on both: annoying and that this topic is just another example of how poor this "anoymous" blog is. There are no standards. Hopefully, the Weekly will get the point soon.
I don't know Julie Testa at all, but from what I've read here, I would say she is a woman with the facts on her side. Also, she has courage.
Jeb only removes posts that are negative to him, our hillside pillaging 'eco-warrior' Mayor Hosterman, the Central Valley Counselor Kernan, the "we get to make the law up as we go along" Kook-Callio or string pulling political puppeteer (sp?) Angela Ramirez - even if the facts are correct.
Anybody who gets ripped on by the "in" crowd - tough luck. Join the club, Julie. Getting pummeled by people who run the loonie bin in P-town is what happens when you speak up and bring the truth and facts to the table. Unfortunately, our local politicians are starting to slime down to the level of the rest of Alameda county. Yuck.
I think you should run for school board and challenge the lonnies. It would be great to have an honest, hard working no-nonsense member replace one of the two of those that are leaving the board.
Here, Here Tough Skin!
There are those who find it annoying when the Weakly publishes actual news, such as murder and child abuse. Most likely these are the same people who find Julie Testa's exposure of, shall we say, uncomfortable facts "annoying." Some prefer to think we live in Pleasantville, where elected officials and public servants are always ethical, and nothing evil ever happens. Sorry folks, it ain't so. Julie Testa is a watchdog for the public trust, something sorely needed and often lacking.
Notice that the topic was posted 5 hours ago. Julie's response was immediate, also 5 hours ago. Interesting...
What's your point interesting?
It is not very interesting at all, actually. The way these posts are time-stamped, 5 hours is the same as 5 hours 59 minutes. You will not be able to see anything "interesting" about the timing of these posts until they are over 24 hours old, when the actual time and date of the post will appear.
Are you insinuating that Julie has nothing better to do than start a nasty (and stupid) topic so she can post in her own defense? That's just nuts.
Ya know, there is an actual town called Pleasantville in New York. It's a wealthy town where no two houses are alike and they are all beautiful. It's not far from NYC. I could never afford to live there but I admired it when I lived nearby. Y'all keep bringing it up and making me think of it.
I don't know about everyone else, but I'm referring to the movie... see the category BOOKS AND MOVIES
To anyone offended on my behalf thank you. I would not ask for this thread to be closed or cleared. I think the opportunity to share information is too valuable to censer. There have been posts on topics that have crossed the line but this is not yet one of them.
I am not a pubic official or public servant so I don't feel that I have the same level of accountability but as I do not hesitate to criticize elected officials and public servants when I believe it is warranted I recognize I make myself a target. I think it is kind of funny.
That of course speaks to why it is necessary to allow an anonymous forum to share concerns and information.
Anyone who thinks I am annoying now will think even more so on Friday. I don't always like what Jeb writes but he has always given me the opportunity to say so, as I will in a letter on Friday. I feel he is more fair to me than not.
Someone is going to accuse me of starting this post myself so I can only assure you, I did not and yes it did hurt my feelings for a moment, everyone gets their feelings hurt. Other unflattering things have been said about me on these posts and I consider myself in proud company.
LOL As I have been typing this it HAS been suggested that I started this thread. I was reading another thread when this thread popped up. It seemed rather random but I did respond quickly. I guess I can't win either way. Either you believe I am so self serving that I started this thread about myself (why) or you believe people don't like meÂ…..you pick.
This thread is dumb. Hey Julie, welcome to my world!
Tough skin wrote: "Getting pummeled by people who run the loonie bin in P-town is what happens when you speak up and bring the truth and facts to the table."
As bad as the anonymous suggestion that Julie Testa is annoying is, what Tough skin wrote is certainly worse. Tough skin is also throwing out an anonymous accusation that seems to suggest who this thread was started by.
We don't know if you are using a real name or not and we don't know your last name, which is fine but....
Everyone knows Julie Testa is my real name they know my face because I stand up for what I believe at public meetings, people know my kids, and anyone can find out where we live. We are not in the same situation.
I agree with you, this thread is dumb!
This thread demonstrates some ongoing points of fact about identity that run throughout the PW blogs.
First, there are very few who have chosen to use their full names. Julie is one of those and unfortunately gets attacked in a thread which is dedicated to the attack upon her.
The next category are those like myself who use only a portion of our real names and identify our neighborhood. These folks consistently use these identities coupled with their neighborhood and you can generally know that it is the same person posting each time (counterfeiting not withstanding). Their identity is consistently used over time and over many threads.
The next category is exemplified by Cholo. He chooses a moniker but consistently uses it as well as the identity of his neighborhood. When he posts you know it's him. Similarly, their identity is used over time and over many threads.
Now the rest are posters like Tough Skin. They pop up with monikers that are rarely if ever seen previously in other threads. It makes one suspect that they regularly change monikers to suit their apparent desire for complete anonymity. They may or may not identify neighborhood.
Complete anonymity gives these folks the ability to change positions, attitudes, philosophies, and whatever in order to serve their purpose at the time. No one can rebut them or criticize them except in the very thread in which they pop up. They are free to range over various threads with their subjects and attack people, change positions, and do whatever pleases them at the moment and not ever be exposed to rebuttal based upon any principles they establish as a real person that is consistently identifiable throughout multiple threads. Since they are nobodies, you cannot address your rebuttals toward any position they may hold.
Therefore, I suggest we don't waste too much time on them. Blow them off by asking what threads have they posted to previously that suggest that their opinion is meaningful.
Julie is not an elected official. With this in mind, this thread should be removed. I hope that the PW blog does not become a place where someone can submit a name of community members/employees for others to take shots. I find it sad that the PW allows and seems to encourage such activity in our community. PW - please develop some standards for your blogs. Keep anonymous if you must. At least have people register. Also, insure that topics are appropriate for a community forum and not used to hurt others. Yes, Julie is tough. She does not, however, deserve this. Nor does anyone else from our community. We are better than this. Enough.
Exactly! Now you may understand why I don't use my full name here on every post. People "out there" can be creepy. I make it difficult for them to find out who I am, but it is not impossible.
While I seldom agree with Julie...she does contribute to being a watchdog of the school district. I wish that she had a counterpart
watchdog of the City Council!!!
Hi PTown, Cholo is ion vacation in Spain. He has asked me to keep him posted on developments in PTown and to offer comments as needed. I will try my best.
Cholo has requested that I be a "stand up kinda guy" so here's my first post.
Advocates like Julie Testa are appreciated.
I will bite.
Who is Julie and why is she so popular?
Torres, Can't we enjoy the absence of Cholo? It's not a bad thing that he's gone. Doesn't Livermore have a site where he can post? He's very insulting to Pleasanton residents.
A forum that attacks Julie Testa or anyone (for no good reason) should not be allowed. The PW should delete this. I do not know Julie Testa, but I appreciate all I have read (facts she presents, issues she has with the school district). Without people like Julie, the school district might just do what it pleases and our school might not be as good as they are. I admire Julie and admit that I personally do not have the courage to write my real name. Pleasanton Weekly staff: please delete this nonsense forum and be considerate in the future not to allow people to start a forum whose purpose is to attack someone for no good reason (come on, there is not even a sentence here, just a label someone thought for Julie - one that in my opinion, is not even accurate)
Has Julie requested that it be deleted?

If Julie is OK with the post, and has asked that it not be closed, then who are you, Anonymous, to demand it be closed?
I think Julie has her fair share of admirers. I think she rocks!
I have read alot here and caught myself up (I think)... Can someone tell me where and when these public meetings are. Or is there a web site with info...other than the "City of Pleasantons" site? I have a daughter soon to start school, and I would like to stay informed.
I have to admit that it scares me alittle that the 'powers that be' have everyone so scared of retaliation that only ONE person will stand in a public forum and ask for accountablity. I just wanted to make sure I had that right... retaliation is the reason more people don't "ask questions"....right??
Sounds like weak intestinal fortitude to me. I bet if one keeps a careful written record and then experiences retaliation in some form, it would be easy to threaten the retaliators with a winnable lawsuit. Julie Testa has been involved for a long time on the school issues. Let's hear from her if she has ever experienced retaliation.
I am not surprised.
I was somewhat expecting more details...
Okay... some harassment is overt some is subtle. Some is intentional some may not be. My son recently told me he used to believe it was a complement when a teacher or school personnel would tell him they saw his mom on TV, or in the paper, but he said now he can hear the innuendo and it makes him uncomfortable.
I have documented some direct harassment with the district, but when it involves the district administration there is little recourse. I would like to share a past post (not written by me) that was sympathetic to some of the challenge I have experienced. It speaks to why parents may be reluctant to be public with their concerns.
"this blog allows things to be stated anonymously that sometimes parents of current school children do not feel they can say in a public forum. No one wants their child(ren) to be the one to take any retribution should they express criticism for district administration or take a stance contrary to the teachers union. And don't say that wouldn't happen.
Better yet, why not ask Julie Testa how she felt at a board meeting last fall when she was verbally attacked by Dr. Casey (on camera) after bringing millions of dollars of available state grant monies to their attention. She indicated that instead of staff spending time preparing the justification for a parcel tax, they should pursue these already-paid-for tax dollars. Dr. Casey did not like her insinuations and launched an attack after she was no longer allowed to speak! In a follow-up column, even Jeb Bing referred to her as "badgering," not the most complimentary adjective. Web Link
As follow up, at a January meeting, staff described the nearly $7 million dollars of state grant monies that they were applying for as a result of "taking another look" and seeing that indeed, we qualified. So much for the independent consultants who earlier had reported otherwise. Then there were many thanks to the staff person who prepared the apps (her job.) But where were the kudos, let alone apologies, for Julie Testa at that point?? And did you read about this in the Weekly? No.
If this is how a parent/taxpayer was treated for finding $7M for our district---on her own unpaid time---do you think others are eager to show up time and again to speak to administrators and trustees with other demands? They would just be labeled as "badgerers" too, I'm afraid."

But is that really retaliation? Remember the one lady who posted here awhile ago on a different thread about how the teacher publicly embarrassed her kid in class because the lady didn't pay some "donation" to the school? It is that sort of behavior that I'm talking about. Does your son receive poor treatment from school teachers or administrators because of your actions?
My kids have had many outstanding teachers and I have great respect for most of the administrators in this district.
I have documented direct harassment with the district. I have shared what I am comfortable sharing.
Many parents have expressed reluctance about being identified as challenging the district for fear of many forms of intimidation and retaliation. I believe what most parents are concerned about is not overt but subtle consequences.
This is a post from a parent that I think expressed many parents feelings.
when it comes to school related issues, I know that not everyone agrees with me and I can deal with that. But I do not want my children to bear any consequences from teachers, administrators, or even other parents because of my actions. And yes, it would happen because we are human. It is extremely clear who you side with, Jeb, so if you were my child's teacher and were aware of my views, I would be concerned how that difference of opinion would affect my child.
I am unwilling to put my name on this post

This topic should be on a different thread, or are we still talking about me being annoying?
Julie, it sounds like you don't want to share your 'annoying' thread! Don't you like the change of topic? Anyway, I wanted to add this--I knew a woman who went head to head with our elementary school principal in Pleasanton. This was over a safety issue that concerned all of us, but only this woman took action to change things, and she was successful. However, the principal did not want this change, which was for the benefit of students, and resisted until many meetings at the district level forced the change. During the summer break I went to the district because I was concerned there would not be space for my child in his grade. The guy at the district told me there's only 1 child on the waiting list. I saw the paper, upside down on his desk. The child on the waiting list was this woman's child. This was her neighborhood school, and had been for years. How odd that her child should be wait-listed. Coincidence?
Just for the record there are at least two other Julie's that post on these forums.
Rightfully so I am sure, as there are others with the same name as me.
But please keep that in mind, I am not starting or inserting myself in every topic.
LOL, Abbie I am happy to share my annoying thread, thanks for posting.
[Post removed due to disrespectful comment or offensive language]
Just so it is known, I took a screen shot of the above post.
I applaud your courage to speak the truth, and take on this school district. I work in the district and, believe me, ANY parent who advocates for their child gets the label of "crazy", "needs to get a REAL job", etc. Honestly, I get so sick and tired of the sarcasm!
Don't miss out on the discussion!
