But of course unclehomerr might also have lost out on a way to conserve energy and reduce his energy costs. Now he has no way of knowing, because he hung up on the caller before he heard what he/she had to say. What a guy!

Yes, I saw the green vested people going up my street , when I got out of my car to go inside. They had to know I was home because they watched me go inside. Never got a knock on my door. Maybe it was my big dog that spooked them. I buy nothing over the phone and nothing from e-mails or door to door sales people. If I haven't done business with them before , they don't get my business. I have tried and true companies that I do business with. It is safer that way.

Interesting - a guy came to my door last week, late afternoon, in some kind of fluorescent-colored vest. Tried to start a conversation about energy savings - I cut him off by saying my bills had never been lower (true story), and yes, I'm completely comfortable. He turned and left - either sensed the conviction in my voice (that door-to-door solicitation doesn't work with me - perhaps it's the sign I have by my door?), or heard my raucous dogs in the background protesting his presence. I won't feel bad another second about being a little short with the guy.

I am usually very supportive of the people in the flourescent jackets, and have donated thousands to their organization in the past. I would happily contribute even more to their cause, but I want to see specifically where the money is being earmarked. For me, that is the kicker.

kitty kat is right. I used to give a lot to Red Cross. I can't tell you how much I gave. Now I don't give them anything. They can talk all they want to about how the money goes to a good cause, but I would like to see specificity in the language. Until they specify exactly what disaster they're responding to, exactly what supplies are to be brought in, the names of the victims they're supposedly helping, and a legal assurance that my donation won't go to Red Cross administrative salaries and pensions, they'll not get another nickel from me.

How did the America Red Cross get into this conversation on this energy scammers? Don't give your money to the Red Cross okay. How about you give them your blood every 8 weeks. It helps save at least 3 people's lives and you feel good too. Although, you will never know WHO they are. Sometimes, it's good to give just to give.

Jen7 comes across as being a bit naive. Its great to be a liberal bleeding heart but let's be real. Blood is fungible just like our tax dollar. Before I allow the Red Cross to bleed me dry I want to see language that specifies exactly where MY blood is going to. If it's going to save a child's life all so much the better. I've given in the past until it hurts. But I don't want my blood being used on some undeserving criminal. Until the Red Cross can assure me exactly where my blood is going they'll not get another drop from me.

Dear KittyKat, I truly feel sorry for you that you are so tainted by this world that you cannot see the value in donating blood. You want to know who is getting your blood! Really? I resent and reject the comment that I am naive. I am definitely not a liberal bleeding heart. No, in fact, I am a conservative Republican and a God-loving woman. I've been donating MY blood for over 20 years and I will continue to do so. Why? Because it is an EASY way to help out someone, regardless of who they are, in their time of need and I do so gladly. I pray you or a family member will never be in a situation where massive amounts of blood are needed to save a life! Have a great day!
