It's only Thursday afternoon and already Candy Sheldon and others are claiming blanket space at Lions Wayside Park for the always-popular Tommy and the 4-Speeds band at Friday's Concert in the Park.

Ohhhhh nnooooooooo... here we go again. Blankets and chairs take presidence over live people who arrive to listen to music. You must take a position across the street while a blanket awaits its just-in-time owner to arrive.

Have to agree with you on this one Frank. Just a sign of a total sense of entitlement. Don't let blankets have power over people. Move the blanket, sit down, and get ready for the show.

We used to live near Lions Wayside Park in the mid 1990s. The crazy ritual of setting up blankets early on Fridays ran counter to the spirit of these events. At that time. I felt it would be appropriate for the city to run the sprinklers for about an hour at noon on Fridays. Now the entitled set their quilts and blankets on Thursday. The Salvation Army or another worthy charity ought to make a sweep around 1pm on Fridays - that might take care of this blight.

Each year this gets worse and worse.
The seating at the Friday concerts, as well as the Shakespeare in the Park, should be first come, first serve. If you want to have a secured spot, do it the old-fashion way and send a kid up a couple of hours ahead of time to save your family's spots.
The DT Association should make a sweep of the park at 5:00 and put all unattended items over to the side to be claimed later by their owners.

Ptown Mom. Nicely put. We are in the "I'm Entitled" era. People want whatever they want, whenever they want it without a care for the impact on anyone else. I love America but we sure can be ugly!

The second time Tommy & the 4 Speeds has threatened retirement. The first time was temporary with demand from the early Friday night crowd that drew them back. Let's hope they don't stay away too long this time.

Just drove by the Park - ridiculous. There is not any space without an empty blanket or chair. The City needs to stop looking away from this and put a stop to such a poor display of sense of community.

I had been thinking it would be a nice evening to go to the concert now that it isn't so hot. But it sounds like we shouldn't even bother going if the entire place was staked out many hours ago! I agree that the city should put a stop to this and the Bay Area Shelters should come make a sweep on Friday afternoons and they will have a good supply of blankets for the winter months. A token place holder should not be recognized.

Good God, people. Get a life. Blankets down on Thursday for a Friday concert? The person in the picture should be ashamed of herself. Are you also one of those overzealous parents who stick their kids in year-long sports clinics in hopes they'll make the big show one day too? Sheesh. This is so pathetic.
